i'd suggest canon, just because of it has the AF motor and the D40x don't. Lens selection will be your next big issue next time. You'll face problems finding the right lens next time if u use the D40x. While canon L lens are costly, there are other options like sigma and tamron. smile.gif

You do the choosing man.

the canon want is shure better lar....the af points + ai servo oledy tarpaued D40's 3 point AF. otehr stuff already mentioned above. But be adviced that if you ever slap a 70-200mm on the 350..it will look like a midget with a big pen1s

The D40X not as good an option as the ageing 350D meh? Hmmm..... I haven't checked out the full specs sheet but I thought it would be a better choice as it has advanced since the days the 350D was launched and upgraded from the original D40. But I only know CANON and I can't really influence this decision except wonder.......

I think u can compare the camera spec such as pros n cons from the opinion of sifu here.

The important issue is which 1 u like n need.

I'd say D40x WB would be better than 350D but with 3 focus points and only AFS lenses?
It's up to him to decide

Go for Nikon D80 if your budget permit.

Otherwise, I think the Canon 400D is a better choice than the 350D.

The Star's InTech section have many articles on DSLRs (incl. D40X and E-410).

Technology wise ler, i am sure D40 will do better than 350D...
But Focus Points wise ler, 350D definately dapaoed D40... (7FP vs 3FP)

aside from your 7FP vs 3FP which you have been emphasizing.
Supporting AF on both EF and EF-S lens vs AFS only

is true...

for ur info:
canon very less EF-S lenses.
nikon a lot of AF-S lenses.

D40 not a bad option, the only things i don't like is the Focus Points.
350D ler, a bit old la... coz 400D will be better choice... (technology wise)

for me, if only this 2 bodies let me choose, i definately will go for 350D... Focus Points count. tongue.gif

i dont think you will go for that many lenses canon is offering as opposed to non AF-S nikkors.
when you do, neither body will be you main body at that time icon_idea.gif

so get D40X for the awb n "specs". the colour is rclxms.gif
no need to worry about focus points at this stage 1st

do make sure your photography teacher paints you a more complete picture.

when people around you use X brand, you get to share lens. that's nice.

people tend to preach that using X brand is good cos X brand has lotsa lens. that seems OH SO NICE, but what they usually don't tell you is that

1. you are not likely to own more than 5 lens.
2. even if you do, you're still limited by your $$$$

regardless of what brand you get, there WILL be lens for them. even if you get a not-so-widely-used brands in Malaysia like Pentax, it doesn't mean you made a bad choice. smile.gif it's just that going for Nikon or Canon usually means you get higher chance of getting used lens.

hehe. i was in "Kelab Seni Foto" when i was a teen. biggrin.gif use EOS 88 or whatever those film SLRs for snapping school sports day. wink.gif

anyway i'm not saying your teacher doesn't have a point cos i agree too. biggrin.gif for me i was actually looking for Nikon, even had a lens ready. in the end i went for Canon cos got someone offer me rather nice package. biggrin.gif

heck in fact i was eyeing on Pentax before as well. even if you get Nikon D40, don't worry about AF issue. it's just the AF lens that it won't support AF, you can still get AF-S & AF-I lens.

The EF-S lens mount is a derivative of the EF lens mount created for a subset of Canon digital single-lens reflex cameras with APS-C sized image sensors.

The "S" in EF-S stands for "short back focus", which means that the rear element of the lens is closer to the image sensor than on regular 35 mm SLR cameras. The proximity of the rear element to the image sensor greatly enhances the possibilities for wide angle and very wide angle lens, enabling them to be made smaller, lighter (containing less glass), faster (larger aperture) and less expensive. Most current Canon EF-S lenses are wide angle.

Lenses designed specifically for APS-C sized sensors are often optically designed to provide a narrower light cone to match the sensor. However, not all such lenses require the shorter back focus, and may feature the standard EF mount. Such lenses will give noticeable vignetting if used on a 35mm film or sensor camera.

Dai kor~ me too comparing Nikon D40x with Canon 400D...

http://www.pconline.com.cn/digital/dc/ping.../986756_13.html

lens reviews:-
http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html

duno whether u able to read chinese or not... but i think it's very useful for u as well. there is a lot of pros and cons out there~ for me, skill is more important than ur equipments. no matter how great ur equipments are, and u've no SKILLS... no point right? u must make use of it~ it's for u to control ur technology, noT the technology control u. Do u understand wat i mean?

After i had done my reseach, i will go for Nikon D40x.

ok, y i will choosed Nikon D40x???

1. base on $$$ Nikon D40x is more cheaper and the lens quality is much more better than Canon 400D.
2. Nikon lenses are cheaper than Canon ( correct me if i'm wrong )
3. AF - Points ( doesnt care cos i'm more on the Skill )
4. For the lens Nikon only support AF-S ( doesnt care cos if i buy new lens i will definately buy latest and new lens )

these are just my opinion ya~ no offences~ wink.gif

i hope i will be Nikonian D40x soon wink.gif
