Hi all. I am looking at either PCX or NMAX for long distance daily commute of about 70km one way (half highway, half village backroads) and weekend JB-KL-JB. Right now I ride a bigger bike but I normally only do 120-130 km/h on PLUS (and around 100 km/h for daily work commute) so I feel like the bike is underutilized (also maintenance cost a lot lol).

Are these 2 small scooters good enough for 115-120km/h cruising on PLUS? I read that there are modifications to the CVT that can increase the scooters' top speed by sacrificing acceleration, but wondering if these mods can affect the bike's reliability. I have a very light throttle hand and am mostly concerned about cruising speed.

i think you should consider the endurance factor of the bike.
for scooter 150cc to ride 70km a day with almost full throttle.
i think it will not stand long. Better u buy kapcai 150cc

I agree with maslam, a 150cc kapcai whether it's honda or yamaha should be a more suitable bike for you.

My 2015 PCX can reach 115km/h easily if using the stock IRC tyres. But slippery during rain. Now using Maxxis diamond but lower top speed but stable during rain notworthy.gif .

The CVT belt can lasts up to 25000 km rclxms.gif no problen
*
Meaning can maintain 115km/h easily for hours? This is wide open throttle or still have some power left? Stock CVT right?

Kapcais do seem like the more logical choice performance wise but scooter ergo, windshield, and massive underseat storage (while able to add a top box) is very tempting..

No prob at all. Depends how brave you are at that speed. PCX can tolerate it. Just remember to service, change EO, gear oil, check brake fluid, coolant, tyres not botak, & you should be fine. Riding scooter also requires strong index & middle finger to pull the brake trigger laugh.gif overall PCX is a worthy scooter to buy notworthy.gif mine 3 y.o feels like brand new. Ppl who says scooter easily spoilt, senang rosak i really lol at them ohmy.gif

Sounds good! I imagine buying a used 2-3 year old PCX shouldn't be an issue right? Being a Honda I assume the engine is bulletproof

Been using NMAX for about a month and changed to dr pulleys 13 gram sliders for smoother performance. Cruising speed around 90~100 kmh, but possibly more since I'm still lacking experience. Overall good bike, though I have heard that PCX is much smoother and it has a bigger fuel tank which is a plus.

NMAX also very tempting because of the price (used around 5k) and apparently more powerful engine. Most seem to agree that PCX is more comfortable though which is important to me seeing as I will need to spend a few hours on the saddle during JB-KL sad.gif

basically you have to know the limit and service accordingly.
I would not say it scooter is easily spoilt, but i recommend kapcai for ts usage.

PCX is indeed more comfortable out of the factory. Note that the infamous vibrations from stock NMAX can be a dealbreaker for some.

Scooter is definitely not for full-throttle cruising. I'd say the safe point is about 3/4 full throttle, and even then, I was recommended to service my scoot more often because I travel back and forth to NS weekly from KL. However, the upside is that you don't have to think about stalling and gearing.

Personally, I downgraded to NMAX from a 250SL, and I'm never going to ride a clutch bike again. Scooter is just much easier to handle. thumbup.gif

How is the NMAX on the highway? Need to do those CVT pulley mod to be able to cruise at highway speed comfortably?

On highway, it's great if you go at the speeds that I mentioned in my previous post. I haven't gone full throttle all the way (and would not recommend it), so others with more experience may feel free to correct me on that.

Second question is a bit harder to answer, and you might only be able to find out via a testride of a stock NMAX. I only did the roller-to-slider change because I have trouble keeping the throttle pinned (suffering from an illness that cause my hand to tremble often), and it helps the bike accelerate with less input. The Dr. Pulley sliders also reduce the bike's vibration problems a bit.

I have seen many mentioned about modifiying the pulley and came across a brand called Dr Pulley, mind explain how does the pulley improve acceleration and top speed? Thanks

Pcx can reach 119 but shaky, no power to potong and engine sounds very loud. I don't recommend that, ex pcx owner here

It slides up and down instead rolling like normal roller.

Benefit is you have faster pickup.. but the drawback since your roller mangkuk designed for a roundshape roller instead a slider.. it will wear faster...

Top speed not really, but the butt feeling will say yes because you feel accelerate faster..

I would encourage that... used PCX is a good start for a comfortable scooter with liquid cooling.

In NMAX's case it also reduces the vibration that comes from the engine. Vibration while standard was pretty rough. There was a noticeable difference before and after I installed the Dr Pulley sliders.

Currently using big bike for both ?
Want to downgrade to small bike (for Both) ?

Suggest get new small kapchai for 140km daily,
weekend 720km continue use big bike or switch to Axia E 2016 (RM10K)
