Want advice. What type of format will be for ur external HDD which can make it readable in OSX and Windows? Can give any advice. FAT or FAT32 or OSX format? |

FAT32, MS Dos format. Thats the only one read & writable for both OS.

should be FAT32, so that you can use a partition bigger than 2GB.
There's no such thing as OS X format... but currently, Apple is using HFS+ Journaled as the default for new Macs... |

eventhough not bootable (but somehow i think is still possible just that not really recommended)
but parallels~ yeah~ it can use ext hdd ^^ but usb.. still a lil slow~ |

From "security" point of view, using Mac OS Extended (HFS+ Journaled) is a good idea.
In case something happened to the external HDD (missing or being robbed), then "the new owner" might thought that the HDD is faulty (need to be reformatted). "Pure" Apple/ Mac OS users always use HFS+ format as their preferences. This post has been edited by abgzam: Jun 10 2007, 01:06 PM |

You can always do what I'm doing, I have 2 partitions on my external, one in HFS, and the other in FAT32. Just use the FAT32 for files that I wanna share with Windows, and the HFS partition for backup of my Mac.
And partitioning it is really easy via Disk Utility. |
