I think the biggest factor is affordability. It is not that they don't like 3 bedders, the question is whether bank is willing to approve their loan. 2 bedders can at least meet a small family (1 or 2 child) requirements given their financial situation. Nowadays properties are not cheap and bank is extremely difficult to approve loan.
