Still remember those MMORPG where you spent time killing mobs one by one, building levels, increasing stats, getting equipments, joining faction war, raids and all. Especially the part where you chat with people roaming the map, open shop to sell your stuffs and all that.

Why suddenly this genre like died already? Even the remake of Ragnarok Online Mobile now got really bad reviews like it’s not the same old RO anymore. After WoW and Guild Wars 2, MMORPG is like quiet for years. Now when you search for this genre, they are mainly those cheapskate big boobs China/Korea auto-skill, auto-quest, auto-every fucking thing noob game built to trick you spend money on gacha stuffs.

Is it because youngsters nowadays have 2-inch attention span so all the currently popular games are casual/hyper-casual? Or is it because the majority of gaming population is sucked into MOBA/FPS/battle royale?

Simple because mobile gaming generate way more profits than other genre.

As long as player/consumer continue to allow company to continue Monetization on loot box and gacha and exploit their customer.

This trend will continue non stop, and also PC gaming also had been failing half the time with them pushing early access game which is full of bug and crappy shit.

go watch YongYea or Jimpression video they have lots of video for you to watch and understand.

The gaming industry is not managed by passionate gamers anymore, but by businessmen and business investors that knows nothing about gaming at all.
Their only goal is to milk as much money as possible, that's their only order, doesn't matter how the little guys below them achieve it.

Comparing to studio/people that actually passionate of the game they made, you'll see the drastic differences between their game and the rest of the world.
See example like Path of Exile & Warframe.
Both of those are online games, if you craving for online-interactions I highly suggest checking out those games.
Of course there are other good examples; CDProjectRed, part of SquareEnix (I say "part" cuz not every of their division perform well).
FF XIV is actually quiet well managed, if you want strictly MMORPG only, that's the title to go for - it just that it is a subscription title.

The advent of crowd-funding is also a problem of itself, people starts to use the promise of better game as SCAM.
Better MMO, next gen MMO, revolutionary MMO... blah blah blah... truthfully all I see now are just marketing sales pitch instead of any solid proof of the product will actually be made.

Fuck mobile games, it is the culprit that makes the industry become as worst as it is now. mad.gif ranting.gif
Loot boxes / random boxes used to be only featured in F2P MMO, which I was totally fine with it.
The longest gaming time I spent is on a MMO that you guys would classify it as "P2W", but I highly enjoyed it.
And then some greedy ass suddenly figured out to put that "feature" into full priced games & mobile platform... vmad.gif mad.gif

Korean MMO? There is a problem with Korean's mindset that I don't think they will "awake" any time soon.
Their mindset of mindless grind... They seriously have the potential and capability to build awesome MMO, but they always squander it on stupid mindless grinding game.

The best scenario? Combine the technical expertise of Korean developer, and the leadership of Japanese game developer.
Then the chance of getting a Godly game will possibly be realized.

I personally don't have high hope, or even any hope, on Western developer.
I just don't like their style.
Japanese people have the best taste, I'd play FF XIV if I could, but I can't really afford it overtime. Used to play it when it was first launched.

Yup loot boxes really generous profit to developer as claimed by Wargaming but players and community as a whole always have choice to pressure them to reduce or kill it like what happen in WOTblitz...its nice to see developer at last bowed to players request

Sadly the community itself is not helping as well,
PC we have a few YouTuber who is dead against loot boxes and shitty monetisation.

On the other hand you have those in console or mobile that just give in or take it as a norm that's how thing work here.
Indoctrinated that gacha is everything here.
Yes we have the gumi case and there is some qol added now show percentage of gacha.
This does not deter them heck mobile is corporate mini casino that require no license no supervision and continue to milk from it's player as long as it's IP sells.

What happened to Black Desert Online? Thought it's among the top now?

There are a few high potential MMO coming soon, but not sure whether worth hoping or not.

Mobile gaming is definitely the future. I guess more people like playing quick games like 10 minutes or so, anytime & anywhere compared to gaming many hours straight on PC. I don't like mobile gaming cause IMO our phone battery ain't ready to sustain mobile gaming unless you don't mind changing phone every year.

Mobile gaming is definitely the future when new gamer this day want accessibility more than anything.

BDO? Its a clusterfuck single player games that disguise as MMO.

No in game trading which deter RMT means no bot selling gold.
^
Because of this pretty much everything in game is SP, you cant trade with friends, you cant trade in guild or any sort.
You are forced to do everything solo.

No raid/dungeon content tower defense is not a dungeon.

A lot of things in game such as extra weight/pets/storage are consider as "pay for comfort".
The reality of it you need those stuff to actually play comfortably, It turn running back to town/restock from 30min-2h,allow you to grind longer and etc.

The game is BUY TO PLAY but it has the model of F2P have.

- mindless theme-park grind, kill 100 that, kill 300 that... totally pointless quests they might as well not exist.
if you played BDO a long time ago and compare it with current, you'll notice the levelling pace has been speed up significantly, even the developer want you to skip all contents...

- pushing cash shop sales, need more explanation?
severely limited available gear appearance on purpose to push cash shop cosmetic sales
they make different set for different class is even more infuriating

- shit itemization system, so weak, so little variation,
everyone grind for the same sets, gamble for the +

- shit auction house, system determine max item price, no true free market
good luck buying cash shop item on auction house, the demand is so high yet so little stock available

- beautiful but non-interactive world, all the NPCs are just decoration, looping their animation over and over and over...
the world is devoid of proper lore and story, it is a lifeless world, made only for player to grind

- limited player to player trading, pretty much potion only

blah blah blah blah... it's a game with so many potentials, but ultimately cash shop comes first.

Good game but screwed up in-game economy? Lol.
That's good to know for me, cause I'm the type that really enjoy building up my wealth in-game. So if the in-game economy sucks, it's kinda turn off for me.

Graphic wise - One of the best very nice and all
Gameplay wise - Pretty good for fast action games

in game economy is determined by the system so its stuck.

Player got too much money from other easier sources and nobody is selling enough to satiate the market

Lots of demand lack of supply.

You will be playing with lots of people sniping for 1 item or when i was playing lots of market bot.

because kids these days want instant reward and gratification without working hard for it.

Just like PC gamesof yesterday years... we play thru multiple reload a session... these days if they have to reload last save game more then twice a day they will whine the game is "too hard"

Newer generation are not patience enough to play rpg game and majority of 80s & 90s have started to work, they only had mobile on their hand to play.

IMO, RO Mobile is better than PC's RO2 many many time..

Thats why i decided to return to WoW after a 10years hiatus, WoW's story-telling is top notch seeing all those destroyed cities like
southshore, teldrassil & most of the old world during cataclysm expansion. WoW's world really moves accordingly if you know what i mean.
