Hi all,

Want to ask, recently I applied loan mortgage with PBB. They required me to sign up for credit cards.
If I received them and does not activate, do I still need to call up to cancel?
And would there be any consequences?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I remember, few days ago I cincai put in CVV and got through. I'll observe again the next time I use my Maybank cards online.
To be precise, I don't think there's such a thing as "required". the 2 products are unrelated.

This said, if you applied for some good cards that many had been trying hard to get, keep them. Might not be easy to get public bank cards.

To answer your questions, yes, you need to cancel them if you don't want them. Otherwise you risk theft and paying SST.

Yea, that's what I thought too. But I was told that they applied special rate for me by saying that I am gonna apply for their credit cards. Anyway, it's been done.
But, can I ask another clarification on the SST? I get confused from some of the replies on this forum.
Some says even without activating, I will be charged SST? So, it's like even if I am not using the card, the bank will charge me SST for holding on to a card?
Therefore, upon receiving, I must call up to cancel?

Erm, will it in any way affect me as like applying for a card but canceling without even using? like kena blacklist or something?

*Cause i already had Maybank 2 Cards, and not a heavy user.. Seems like a lot if I had to pay another RM50 SST charge for the additional PBB 2 cards.

I doubt they'll give any special rates for your loan in exchange for applying for credit cards. They're giving gifts like <$300 for new customers not taking loan from them.

For public bank, question about activation should not arise. When you receive the cards, you'll see that they're "pre-activated".

I don't know blacklist or not. If you only reapply after a few years, I don't think they'll feel that you're messing around. If keep applying and cancelling then maybe yes.

My suggestion is, cancel the non-amex card (use the reason SST) and keep one of the public bank cards. Then you have credit cards from 2 banks. Higher total credit limit and 1 bank backup the other.

Wow. Thanks so much for the advice. Appreciate it!

Thank you!
