I'm doing a research on Engine Oil brands used by car drivers in Malaysia. Was just wondering what do people think about

1. Mitsubishi
2. Repsol

We all know that the more famous ones are like Castrol or Shell.

Just curious on the view of branding

I have used Mitsubishi oil made by Eneos several times. It's ok, good value for money, especially since I only bought them when on special promotion below rm100/btl. There's another Mitsubishi oil but made by Idemitsu if not mistaken but I have never tried that one.

Repsol, I used them just a few times very long time ago (over 10 years ago). Decent also but since it's not as cheap/rarely on promotion, I don't use anymore.

Basically I only bought reputable branded oils but only those on very good promotion price, for example just lately Giant gave very good promo on Shell 5w40 for just rm89-95/4 ltr btl, or a few months ago Mobil 1 5w40 special promotion in AEON Big for just rm110-120/5 ltr btl.

average oil change budget 400-500, average service interval, 7000km (except for car that's still under warranty)

my list of acceptable brands
Penrite

Thanks for the replies! It has been very informative!

Also interesting that the purchase is done in places like Giant other than say, Petrol Stations, workshop or spare part shops.

Coz those supermarkets offer much more attractive prices when on promotions. Why need to pay more if can get the same with less?

I'm interested in your ex list

May I know why?

Particularly intrigued on Miller's as they even more expensive than Motul despite being less reputable and even more surprisingly it has a following by very respected/reputable folks in 86 group

I have more confidence in ZIC oil as they provide more specifications on the engine oil.

I am sticking to purchasing engine oils from authorised sellers, and ones that provides loyalty programs. No point for guessing, but it means Shell.
As for the brands you listed, I am finding it hard to find it sold? and harder to find the lists of authorised sellers.

my british friends say they did some weird "improvement" after they got bought over. and there're weird particulate if you rest the oil for a long time. since my car only been driven once every month, better not risk it.

whichever cheapest fully syn 5w30 or 5w40 which i can find from big reputable departmental store such as giant or tesco
reasoning being that my first priority is it must be genuine,i rather a 100% genuine semi syn than dubious fully syn, secondly it must be cheap, when i was on company training in US,i seen they had all kind of fully syn oil on walmart normally sold in single or 5 quarts size, they are dirt cheap compare to our price, check out walmart online store, usually a 5 quarts size(approx 5 litre) are just RM70-120 for really good brand, that's why i believe the filling stations here are selling to us their engine oil at a huge margin,i'm not gonna pay that kinda price
giant often had shell helix ultra on sale for 99 bucks or below, that's my best usual go to,i'll stock up 2-3 bottles when they had the promotion going on
