Been there yesterday. I would say environment is nicer than Dpc because it is new and alot bigger. BUT its still not comparable to Dpc bcoz demographic is different. There is just too many T20 at Dpc because of their premium product so spending power is high. Not saying there isnt here but its a good mix of all income group.
Checkout lakeside mall again in a few months later. If shops and restaurant is always full on weekend then the mall will be sustainable and perhaps attract more brands.
I was there for a short while, just checking out the shops and how everything's set up.
The place does feel nice, not just because it's new and big. I get that DPC has pulled in a crowd with some serious spending power, so now it's on Sime Darby to figure out how to draw this crowd in.
After my visit today, my updated impression is that this place is starting to feel like a bazaar.
It's great for grabbing food, hanging out with friends, doing some grocery shopping, and picking up a few light items and services or furniture that the locals need. But it's not really a place for relaxing or santai, which is what the parks are for. I noticed a lot of families with very young kids just slowly strolling around, not really paying attention to their surroundings. There were even some teens sitting on the floor eating, and signs of people stepping on the plants just to save a few steps. The trash bins were overflowing with trash and empty milk tea bottles since there was a good promo going on, and instead of taking their trash with them, people were just chucking it outside the bins. It felt way messier than on the first day, and I wasn't able to enjoy myself.
I'll try to go back on a weekday and definitely avoid weekends until the hype is over.
On the bright side, I still love the open-air setup. After it rained on Friday evening, the place felt really cool and breezy, and there were less people. I chatted with some folks running the events and we were joking about it being cold. It can get quite chilly after the rain sometimes. Also, this open-air concept makes sure that it keeps out people looking for just free air conditioning.
Sime Darby could definitely consider bringing in more brands because after you eat, if you want to wander around and shop, there's not much besides groceries to get. For locals, it's still ok, but it definitely doesn't make sense for outsiders making a special trip to just eat and then leave. The lakeside area is nice, but it all depends on the weather. Plus, the playgrounds are always packed now, so it's not the most exciting place for families with younger kids. The walkways in front of the shops get wet after heavy rain, something I'm sure Sime Darby would have noticed and should do something about it.
I also hope they start charging for parking soon to help manage the crowds and keep it to people who really want to support the businesses. I had to park pretty far away to get to the mall, and I can't see myself doing that every time I visit.
