Yes

Not 5% but Idk I think maybe because I've been paying RM86 only before this monthly. So I took a toll when it raised RM350.

I was actually using the infinite 80 but then had to cancel for the new plan which was the 120 one with the phone.
SIDE NOTE : Not used at all to the Xs Max, it's... huge  sweat.gif
*
Ya, from RM86 to RM350 is a big jump. How much is your new plan?

The Xs Max size is just like any Plus sized iPhone, except heavier because it’s glass now vs aluminium previously. Plus it’s all screen and no bezels.

Durian Man eSIM

The Era of SIM-less Finally Arrives!

Durian Man App is the first eSIM provider in Malaysia

eSIM provides the same customer experience in terms of network services such as voice call, SMS, mobile data and global roaming as a physical SIM, without using a SIM card

To activate the e-SIM, you have to go to one of the five authorised Mi Stores located at KLCC, Pavilion, Mid Valley, One Utama and IOI City Mall in Putrajaya.

For local data, Durian Man offers the following monthly options:
4GB data + 60 minutes of calls – RM14.15
8GB data + 500 minutes of calls – RM28
16GB data + 1,000 minutes of calls – RM45
128GB data – RM200

I find it hard to take a company named Durian Man seriously...

I am hoping to start a petition hoping someone from Maxis will see us a group voicing and asking for our right to choose not outright deny us the chance of using these features.
It's a longshot but let's give it a shot.

Do sign and show your support.

I have a dual sim HK set as well but have signed for support. Cheers bro.

So effective a couple hours ago, my XS Max has now moved on to its new owner, aka my better half, while I've "downgraded" to try the Xr.

Some thoughts on my one month experience with the Xs Max... When the X was introduced last year, most Plus sized iPhone owners (including myself) yearned for a bigger screen and bigger battery in the same design. Sure, we all b*tched about the notch back then but look at every other Android flagship now, ha ha. Anyway, we got what we wished for this year, albeit at a very high price (RM5399 for the base 64GB model).

The good: -

- Build quality is really solid and although it's slightly on the heftier side, the weight distribution feels very balanced. Still, those of us who used an X previously may need to get used to having a "Plus" sized iPhone all over again.

- The huge screen is immersive and really great for media consumption. I also prefer the OLED screen of the iPhone compared to that of Samsung and Huawei flagships due to the warmer, more life-like colors but that could just be a matter of personal preference.

- The camera is great. It definitely is better than that of the X and the 8 Plus, especially with smart HDR.

- The speakers are amazing! It's time to do away with your X-mini speakers smile.gif

- Face ID feels faster than it did on the X. Definitely feels more polished now compared to when it was first implemented.

- For someone who travels quite a bit for work, I can't stress enough how happy I am to finally see dual sim slots on an iPhone! Although why Apple wants to make one model with two physical sim slots and make it available to China, HK and Macau and another model with eSIM and one physical sim slot for the rest of us is terribly frustrating. Still, I bought a HK model so I definitely am reaping the benefits of dual sim immediately. I like how elegantly the sim cards are positioned in the SIM tray, especially.

The bad: -

- It really is not that special over the iPhone X, and that makes sense as this is more of an 'S' cycle upgrade. Yes, you get a bigger screen and a bigger battery, but beyond that it's hard to convince X owners to upgrade. Hopefully next year, we'll get an all new design like the boxy one on the new iPad Pros which I really dig. Reminds me of when I first saw and fell in love with the iPhone 4.

- Apple may have put their biggest ever battery into the Xs Max but battery life isn't stellar. Based on my charging and usage patterns (which averages around 4 hours SOT a day) I find that the battery life is pretty much similar to my iPhone 8 Plus previously, and maybe just slightly better than the battery life of the X, which is not great in the first place. Of course, you don't get that occasional abnormal battery drain as frequently as you do with some Android devices when an app or two runs rogue.

- Charging time getting to 100% is still slow if you compare to some Android flagships. Painfully slow. Of course Apple will argue this helps you preserve the battery life of your phone, hence the bundled stock 5W adapter. Sorry guys, I won't be endorsing any McDonald's cable here smile.gif

The ugly: -

- The price. Enough said.

All in all, I enjoyed my brief stint with the XS Max, but I feel we should have had it last year instead smile.gif

Hmm, did not have this issue since day 1. You're on iOS 12.1?

Nice review Bro. Thanks. Precise concise and to the point. Important details like battery, camera covered.

Better than the usual whinging some here go on about camera shutter sound, warranty cover etc.

You are spot on with the battery life. Disappointing. Holds well during idle but 'powef' use and the fast drain begins. My plus much better. Spend > 5K then leave on idle... No point.

Thought iOS 12 would be more battery efficient but I guess to power a screen that size can't expect much.

Hope the next ones are better but that's we all wish for every year.

Price - what to say except this is Apple. So called base price more than a local family vacation.

Looking forward to your XR review.
*
Thanks bro. Yeah, iPhones have always had good idle battery life unless something goes wrong somewhere but when it comes to usage, then it's all about battery capacity and frankly the 3,174 mAh battery they put in the XS Max is nowhere near good enough to power the phone for a whole day during heavy usage. Well, not in my personal opinion anyway. Still, you can get by the entire day with regular usage between 4-5 hours SOT with some juice left to spare before needing a charge in a span of 24 hours.

I'll tag you at the Xr thread next month for my Xr review smile.gif

Found this deal would like to share with u guys. Would have bought it for RM79 but thank got after a deep dig in Shopee this price is unresistable!
*
Nice. I used the X-One Drop guard previously for my P20 Pro. It's a good solid case for that price point!

QUOTE(rebus @ Nov 19 2018, 12:08 AM)
True. When I first read that the Max would have > 3K battery, guess I had high(er) expectation given that iOS does good battery management but it wasn't so. Had just enough to spare to make it back home.

What about the other Max users here? How's the battery life for you all?

Maybe it's the huge AMOLED screen but isn't it supposed to be more energy efficient?

Since at work have to use WhatsApp a lot, the drain was quite a bit, which about sums up my so called power use no games etc.
But then prior to Max, had a short 'affair' with the Note 9. Thinking the 4K battery would go some way, what a disappointment!  Maybe others have a different experience.

I am sure the XR will be quite long lasting.
*
Ya, I also had high expectations for the Xs Max, being the "biggest" battery Apple had ever put into an iPhone, but while it was adequate to get me through the day without the need of a powerbank, it was not much different from my previous iPhone X, which also got me through the day (barely) without needing a charge midway through. I'm running down my Xr battery now to see how long it goes - last plugged out from charging was on Saturday night, around 10.30pm. It's now at 68% (I hardly use my gadgets on Sundays - need to rest, hehe)

QUOTE(benny888 @ Nov 19 2018, 06:46 AM)
I would say my ex ip8+ has a better battery life vs the Max
Infact battery standby drain is only excellent of you had the phone fully charged. I had tested and found at 80% charge and below drain is poorer averaging 4 to 5% over 7 hours standby
Vs my other Note9 there is no significant difference in actual usage. Of course the N9 battery capacity  is larger
*
For me personally though, I feel the 8+ and the Xs Max had about the same battery life - both can't beat the excellent 7+ previously. And you're absolutely right, in terms of usage, no significant difference between the Xs Max and Note 9 in terms of battery drain. My standby drain at night when the phone is not at 100% is also about 4% (over a 8 hour period), for me that's acceptable coz I have a couple of WhatsApp group that runs very active even when I'm in bed!

For mine i felt 8 plus battery is better than xs max. The xs max battery life is about similar to my 6s plus usage. Drain quite fast , perhaps should go for xr soon ? laugh.gif
*
Maybe just about, I think. For me the 6S Plus was ok but not as good as the 6 Plus (maybe 1GB RAM is the key, hahaha)...

QUOTE(buyoq @ Nov 19 2018, 03:00 PM)
mine is Chrome,WhatsApp. those 2 are the most battery crunching apps on my Xs Max
but i dont really put my phone in "fast drain" category as it still can last me the whole day. drive to office at 6am, balik at 5.30, still left plenty of juice (60-65%)
*
I usually charge my phone at 8pm at night till about 10pm, then switch it to low power mode and go to bed as my day starts at 5.45a.m. Usually when I get home at about 7pm or so I'd have about 50% left or less, depending on how heavy my usage is throughout the day. Of course if I'm traveling long distance and don't have to drive then my usage is higher coz I'll be fiddling with my phone throughout the journey, hahaha... But haven't had a situation whereby I've had to look for a power bank before the end of the day since the days of the iPhone 5 - and long may that continue laugh.gif

For me the main ones are Safari, WhatsApp and Mail...

Conversely, I think my Max lasts longer than my 6S Plus. I remember having to rely quite a bit on a power bank back then. Probably because I actually played more games back then, as opposed to now sweat.gif

Mail draining the battery? How much of emails do you do from your phone man?
*
Between my work and personal emails I’d get about 70-80 a day but maybe just 20 or less would require my attention smile.gif Used to do more emails on the iPad but just sold my 2018 one in anticipation of the new iPad Pros, haha...

Yeah, gaming is a big battery killer so unfair to compare between them and now!

But I’m still using same SIM card on my iPhone XS and XR.
No issue like switch to airplane mode and on again.
More stable than previous

Unlike iphone 7 and Xiaomi keep consistently on and off signal.

Damn. That's a lot of emails.

It's almost midnight and my phone is currently standing at 33%

I think the battery life is quite alright, all things considered. I don't even need to plug in when I use Waze nowadays.

Anyone with network problems?

I'm trying to figure if I have a problem with my LTE signal. Getting only about one to two megs on speed test...although I think it might be Celcom. Anyone else on Celcom experiencing horrible data from 10 pm onwards?
*
Ya, the battery life of the Xs Max is by no means bad, but maybe I had higher expectations for it, hahaha... In the meantime, the Xr battery life is making a good first impression on me... 48 hours already on standby, about 6 hours SOT and still 23% remaining thumbup.gif
