As the topic goes, how old should new tyres be when I purchase them?

0.5-1 year always the best.tyres are not food,u dont have to go for the latest.for example in 2018.buying 2017/2018 tyre is good.not much issue.the molecules of the rubber are more stable.

so you say don't go for tyres just out of factory because rubber molecules not v stable?

i prefer not to use the latest tyre.not sure which correct term to explain.the rubber needs to cure for some time.newly produced tyre,u can feel the rubber are "wet",it wear faster

You'd used the  correct technical term here, cure.
In layman term, it is called 'hardened' or 'hardening' .
Personally, I would be too happy to be offered 3 year olds  against 3-12 month old , with  or without discounts.

thanks for the insight.more than a year still okay.more than 2 years should be with discounted price.
i bought 195 55 15 pirelli p1 2 years tyre rm 170 before this.still good to use.otherwise the price is rm 240

just out of curiosity.... do you have any scientific proof or article to support your statement that tire rubber need time to cure before use?

if so.... how much time do you need to wait until it is properly cured? seriously.... I'm curious to know as this is 'news' to me

Plus could you share which manufacturer tire that you're using which you can get it 'freshly' produced from the factory in Malaysia??

read in some article before.cant find it now.
regarding to your freshly produced tyre question,u can get goodyear tyres in the market with manufacturing date 4219 currently, which is quite new(consider freshly produced to me as in month of october u can get tyre made in the same month)
also get to find one video which u can refer
