Only core i5
No core i7
Dual core MacBook Air vs 8 core iPad Pro

You can't compare the core counts directly against a full desktop class x86 architecture CPU.

---
On a side note, little disappointed Apple decided to cheap out on the core counts, especially when Intel 8th gen CPUs most if not all are quad cores at their base configuration.
That gold color, looks coral to me. Damn, so smexy.

exactly. the macbook 12-inch and macbook pro 13-inch without touchbar look redundant now.

true. whats the point to get mbp non touchbar with last gen dual core processor and same 2 port also.
i think this new macbook air can replace 3 model sekali. old macbook air, the 12 inch and mbp non touchbar(since apple no update it)
seriously i will consider this model if i am looking for macbook now. laugh.gif

it is really so so thin. for me it can replace the macbook pro without touchbar already. it even got touch id now which mbpntb dont have it. feel like wanna sell my own touchbar and get this? haha
*
haha same here for a second i thought i would sell off my mbpntb and get this until i saw the price tag + 128gb

indeed it is a really great upgrade of macbook air since last gen, i would probably go for this rather than pro

not sure if the new macbook air performance is better than pro

with almost the same price for each series especially the new macbook air, the existence of macbook 12 is pretty much meaningless lol imo

Eventho its new, good looking design and has a Retina display, i might settle off with the previous gen MBA.

The display not really a deal breaker for me because i'm using a 2007 MacBook white and the display still looks good. Not as nice as Retina but I never find myself wanted to have a Retina display.

Stupidest decision by Apple to remove the MagSafe, really put me off to buy any new Mac

It's 8th gen Y series processor. 5W TDP instead of the usual 15W TDP processors found in 13" MBPs. Performance should be similar to 12" MacBook.

Wonder how much 8 months old 2017 mbp touchbar can sell now.

i5 processor. cannot be Y-series.

apple always has intel customised processor.
yeah, certainly. this is the good thing about macbook. or should say apple products. can really last very very long.

i have colleagues still using 2012 macbook pro with no retina display.

FALSE.

https://ark.intel.com/products/series/12259...e-i5-Processors

Core i5-8200Y is the only processor with two cores and 1.6GHz base clock speed matches adjusted 7W TDP clock speed shown in Intel Ark. It’s a fan-less design processor.

The only thing weird is the graphics UHD 617 which only can be found in core i7 Y series. Maybe it’s a custom chip which is not listed on Intel Ark website. But it’s definitely not the 15W processors found in 13" MBPs

Yes. it is really using low powered Y chip and a chip that is not announced.

Attached Image

the 12-inch macbook becos redudant now although it still lightest and smallest but given the fact that it is 12-inch vs 13.3 inch of macbook air and pro now. the 12-inch one is still very redundant now given that it has no touch id etc.

It's heavy for a MBA, similar weight to MBP.

I switched from MBPTB13 to MB12 (both 16GB RAM) due to the weight, very noticeable when carry whole day.

Theoretically could opt for those magnetic USB C cable to replace the Magsafe?

For me, I am opposite. I used the macbook 12-inch 2016 model for a year then I switched to MacBook Pro TB 16GB ram model.
I dun mind to trade a bit more weight for better power and bigger screen of MacBook Pro 13-inch. The MacBook Pro 13-inch is in fact lighter and slimmer than 2015 model. After one year of use, the 12-inch macbook to me the scene is too small.

Macbook 12-inch is very portable to carry around, this is no doubt, but processing power wise is still disappointing. 16gb is an overkilled for 12-inch macbook given its processing power.

In fact, 16gb is even overkilled for my 13-inch MBP TB. If giving a choice, I may choose 8gb ram instead and save the money for next upgrade.
But if the processor is min 4 cores like MacBook Pro 2018, it will help if there is 16gb ram.

The MacBook Air is in a weird position now giving its price. The starting price of it for 256gb storage option is not far from MacBook Pro 13-inch. Not to forget that MacBook Pro 13-inch has more powerful processor, better screen, touch bar, more USB-c ports. MOST importantly the weight it not far away from macbook 13-inch.
