Hey guys, which would you’ll recommend the MacBook Air 2017 (Rm3.2k) or the MacBook Air 2018 (Rm4.4k)?

Converting from Windows to Mac.

Need a new laptop and I only use it mainly for the following purposes:

1.Social Media:Instagram,Facebook
2.E-Mails
3.Surfing the net for articles
4.Microsoft Office for work purposes:drafting contracts and spreadsheets

Is the additional Rm1.2k for the Retina Display worth the money?

I think it's best to go to the store & see for yourself... the old air's screen + bezel looks pretty bad & outdated imo. But hey if you dont mind it why not?

Ahhh okay will do that later today then 😀

I don’t mind that it is outdated as I was never one that chases technology & from what I read on the Internet this model should be able to obtain MacOs updates for another at least another 2-3 years.

The standard display isn’t that bad actually based on what I saw on YouTube.

As this is my first venture into using a Mac I also don’t want to be spending so much in case I don’t like it.

Pay cheap and buy twice. U should focus on the needs and not just the price tag.

unfortunately, this is what I always tell myself - “pay cheap and buy twice”. I will not go for price only but make it can meet the needs especially future needs. this is why there are people who recommends others to get 128gb or 256gb storage options of macbook, I always against it. Especially 128gb one, it is always not ‘usable’ in long run, even an iPhone has larger storage than it (most ppl are going for 256gb option unless XR 128gb)

I think there are third party ssd u can buy to upgrade. price wise I think it is not very cheap also. do it yourself for the replacement or get third party shop to do then depends which option is more comfortable for u.

How about Ram? My MBA can’t go past apple logo startup screen now and I think it’s due to my battery so probably it’s time for an upgrade

Besides, how many usb c ports are available for 13” mbp? 2 or 4? My friend told me 13” only has 2 but the website suggests otherwise?

Also, any recommendation for usb C to usb A hub? I don’t need VGA or SD cards, only 2 usb A for mouse and external HDD

IMHO, based on your usage preferences, the MBA2017 is enough.

I just own a MBA 2017, actually I think is worth to invest another 1.2k to get new MBA, especially the phone you using now is in HD u will notice MBA2017 got blur on the text, although it not that bad.

if you don't, actually ok as well, since the requirement by you is not that high, I use it for web programming and photoshop, it work fine btw other then the screen not "sharp" but still acceptable by me.

oh... 1 more thing, I got USB port for that laugh.gif

MBA: 2 USB-C ports
MBP 13" without touchbar: 2 ports
MBP 13" with touchbar: 4 ports

Quite clearly shown on the website actually

Already said before no point to go for non-retina display stuff at this age.

I think u might have regretted for not going for 256gb/512gb storage option at least as well.

yup. Becos once u have used Retina display stuff even for phone. U will be hard to accept display that is at lower quality.

This is the reason why I will never buy any windows laptops becos they are totally not comparable to MacBook Pro.

If you're talking about screens there are many Windows laptops that have awesome displays these days... Thinkpad x1 carbon's QWHD HDR comes to mind, Matebook X Pro's display pretty much destroys the MBP with higher resolution, thin bezels & touch screen. It's not 2012 anymore. You are right they are not comparable because some of these Windows laptops have long surpass the MBP in terms of hardware.

whats the difference between sierra's light/dark mode and mojave's dark mode?

as i've tested, the folders, dock and top bar does turn black in sierra

is it that mojave's version of dark mode is more integrated between other apple software? hmm.gif

high sierra only makes the menu bar and dock colours darker and that's all. other third-party apps may not even support this mode.

In High Sierra you could choose to make the colour of the menu bar and Dock darker, but that’s all. Some third-party apps don’t even support the mode, their menu may still be bright even the dark mode is on.

In Mojave, it is system-wide darker.

hi

i see..

my company will be providing me the mbp 13" TB but then its mostly a 2017 model instead (passed on by another user, who used it slightly past 1 year.. shakehead.gif )

luckily he took very good care of it. the body is still in good condition

assuming the mbp 13" was bought around April 2018

what was the OS that was shipped with?

Sierra or high sierra? laugh.gif

hopefully the IT guy helps me update it to mojave before handing it to me next week. tongue.gif tongue.gif
