There, you answered it yourself......wait till Tomyamland make em. Now UMWT give us a slightly bigger SUV in the form of Harrier Turbo. (Truck-based Fortuner doesn't count)

The latest model is still rather new.
It should be coming. Toyota has a few new models planned for this year and I'll be surprised if the RAV4 isn't one of it.
With the new factory in Bukit Raja up and running, they should have capacity for CKD too.

It all depends what sort of model and the incentives given by the government.

In US, there are the followings models:-
LE, Le Hybrid, XLE, XLE Hybrid, XLE premium, Adventure, XSE Hybrid, Limited edition, limited hybrid. starting from $25,500 to $35,700

It is so far the best selling models in US and Canada.

and It is competitively priced among the rivals.

don't think that UMW has any reason to sell expensive than other rivals given the same engine capacity.

The positioning of their car.... Models all move to 180 - 250k

And their 100 - 160k range now is only left with Altis and Chr.... Dr this stand point I think UMW here only want to cater to the top and the bottom of the market the mid they hardly care.

from DSF.my

Because of our National Automotive Policy, the arrival of this new RAV4 has been delayed indefinitely.

The RAV4 has been missing from the Toyota Malaysia lineup for many years and the reason has been simply this. There is no RAV4 product assembly anywhere in ASEAN. This means the cost to bring in this stylish SUV will be anywhere between RM200k to RM220k as it will need to be fully imported in from Japan.

The ‘business case’ for this SUV is not attractive for UMW Toyota as the local assembled rivals like the super popular Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester and Mazda CX-5 will keep most buyers away from buying a RAV4

However, recently UMW Toyota have taken a chance to import and sell the Toyota C-HR and Toyota Harrier and both have seen brisk sales which could only ‘push’ UMW Toyota management to look seriously at the RAV4 introduction. Now with the 2019 National Automotive Policy still pending some 11 months already, the business case for this imported RAV4 is starting to fade away.

Still, we can remain hopeful and see if the tide changes.

Results are in for the annual Japan Car of the Year awards and the winner is the Toyota RAV4 with 436 votes, beating out the Mazda 3 (328 votes) and BMW 3 Series (290 votes).

Toyota RAV4 wins Japan Car of the Year

The new Toyota RAV4 is still not made available in Malaysia, although we are expecting the SUV to finally make its return into the C-segment SUV market in 2020.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Toyota RAV4 will be introduced in this region next year, with Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia on the list.

Sources at Toyota indicated that Thailand is looking into assembling the model locally. However, that doesn’t mean that the Malaysian market will come from Thailand, as the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement requires a minimum 60 percent regional content to qualify for import duty exemptions.

As such, we are not ruling out the possibility of UMW Toyota Motor importing the Toyota RAV4 from Japan instead.

Either way, expect the RAV4 to be priced a lot more than its closer competitor, the Honda CR-V, and closer to RM 180,000 when it makes its debut in Malaysia thanks to its CBU nature.

Introduced in April 2019, this is the Toyota RAV4’s fifth generation. The Japanese market offers 3 variants that runs on a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT.

Toyota also introduced a new selectable four-wheel drive system on the RAV4 with torque vectoring. When 4WD is not needed, the RAV4 disconnects its rear axle, running only as a front-wheel drive vehicle to save fuel.

Cause Toyota tried selling RAV4 and it didn't sell well here. So they dare not commit to bringing in the car. At that price, there are lots of better options. CR-V and CX-5 give so much more bang for bucks at around 200k. Also, Toyota dropping behind Honda to 4th position (in car sales) shows their business has not been doing well here. They have not been doing much work on pushing the automobile industry in Malaysia nor much branding work for the past few years.

So yeah...that's why...
