Lowyat ATE OC Demo II

Date: 7-6-2007
Time: 3 PM - 9PM
Location: ATE Advanced Technology, Lot 2-07, 2nd Floor, Plaza Lowyat

user posted image

After the recently concluded Lowyat ATE OC Demo, ATE Advanced Technology once again invited fellow Lowyat.NET Forumers for another OC event, Lowyat ATE OC Demo II. This time it was opened to Lowyat.NET forumers who shown interest after OC Demo I. Once again, coolice was the man behind the Demo II. He uninstalled his Water Cooling Kit twice just for the OC Demo, poor guy. Thanks to irangan too for fetching us to Lowyat ATE today.

We reached Lowyat at around 12 PM just now and settled for lunch first. Then headed straight to ATE at around 1 PM. Doom and cablesguy were already there. Immediately we were given Gigabyte P35 DQ6 by billy. So we started to set up the Demo platform. The platform was almost identical with the OC Demo I except for Gigabyte P35 DQ6, Crucial Balistix PC8000 Memory, New D-TEK Fuzion Water Block and Tagan Dual Engine 500W PSU.

The Complete OC Demo Setup

After everything was ready, coolice started to install Windows XP but his personal benching HDD refuse to format. Then billy handed us another HDD to try out. However, there was still error when formating the HDD. Then storm88 press ENTER and wala, Windows XP started to copy. That was strange to all of us.

At that time, many fellow forumers arrived already. After Windows XP installation was done, coolice straight away tested for 4GHz clock out of the box. The system successfully booted to 4GHz for the first run. Too bad we forgot to print screen the result. But luckily there are others who can verify it even before i post this.

The day goes by to a point where we cannot do anthing other than 4GHz clock speed. We struggle to get pass 4GHz considering coolice managed to oc his proc with DFI-S Dark Infinity to 4.12GHz in OC Demo 1. Therefore we try to find the highest FSB attainable and after quite some time we managed to get 520 FSB using 1G Crucial 10th Anniversary x 2.

HDD : Western Digital 20G
PSU : Tagan Dual Engine U25 500W
VGA : Nvidia 7100GS
Cooling : Watercooling
OS : Windows XP SP2

Even with attainable 520 FSB, we couldn't get the system pass 510 x 8. After trying plenty of tweaking but still no changes. We tried 1.65 vcore but it didn't help. The vcore for this board is adjustable up to 2.3vcore. We even switched memory 2 times just to make sure it wasn't the memory which is giving problem. So we decided to try multi 9. It was a shock to us. First try with 456 x 9 successfully booted. It was 4.1GHz clock speed with 1G Crucial Balistix PC8000 x 2

We were delighted at that time and thinking that maybe it will go higher. However, anything above that wasn't boot-able. We actually discuss among ourselves and came to a conclusion that 4.1GHz was the wall for coolice processor.

By that time, most of the forumers has gone home. Only left me, coolice, irangan, yehlai and id86. They patiently waited us to finish the OC Demo. id86 was with us until we finished packing all our hardwares. We decided to try highest achievable clock speed for default vcore that is 1.325vcore. Guess what? 3.6GHz 32M Super PI stable!

Throughout the who OC Demo II, we couldn't find the actual potential of Gigabyte P35 DQ6 Motherboard because we suspected coolice E6600 wall is near 4.1GHz. After he managed to clock his E6600 to 4.12GHz with DFI-S Dark Infinity during the first OC Demo in ATE, he couldn't get the same result at home mainly due to different ambient. We could only come to a conclusion that both DFI-S Dark Infinity and Gigabyte P35 DQ6 were able for 4GHz clocking. However, the Gigabyte P35 DQ6 clocks better and easier with multi 9 but not multi 8. Furthermore, it was the first time we tweak/oc a Bearlake Chipset Motherboard and we were not really prepared for it.

The OC Demo II was smoothly held and some forumers got the chance to get to know each other well. But it's was kinda boring because coolice wasted a lot of time tweaking the motherboard alone while others has nothing much to do. We hope that those who dropped by enjoyed the OC Demo in their very own personal way. Some might enjoy chatting or some might enjoy watching the tweaking.

The Lowyat OC Demo III will not be such a rush. It will be notified much more earlier. And OC Demo III will see more hardwares testing. There will be 2 benchers for OC Demo III. We will see a gem X6800 in action. The X6800 is 3.6GHz prime orthos stable with 1.36vcore. Other than that, we might see N680i Motherboard in action with very high-end Graphic Cards SLi-ed. Perhaps 8800 Ultra SLi. Who knows.

RokXIII: if you see the 1st OC Demo, ATE gave us a spot beside the shop and it's not crowded there. so we will gather there. so you are coming? i need to give some extimate figure to ATE for those who are coming.

serez: sorry, really sorry. we finalise it with ATE yesterday. so it's 1 day alert rather than 1 month alert. hehe... if you notice, the Demo is like testing new hardwares. and now already got some new hardwares just waiting to be tested. in 1 month time, there's maybe other stuff to test. this Demo thing will go on for quite some time. now we are already planning the OC Demo III. OC Demo III will be bigger, we will be testing a gem proc from VictorWang if you know who is that. and some balistix too. let's just keep it suspence for the time being. as for OC Demo II, it's just a small testing as ATE wanted to know what is the benefits to open OC Demo to the public/forumers. if it turn out ugly this time, i believe OC Demo III will be like OC Demo I, where only some of us do the testing and post it out in the forum after the event without notification 1st. the 1st demo was a success cause there's no problems as billy know us in person for quite long time.

anyway, check POST 2 for more info on OC Demo III.

I have read most review site conclude that this gigabyte p35 work just as p965. Just a little bit better. Only Vr-Zone oc their X6800 to 575x9. Maybe next OC Demo III should use X6800 and QX6700/QX6800 for quad core.

hehe..dark and p35-dq6 both are nice board, just yesterday my proc hit fsb wall..i cant really test the highest fsb tat p35-dq6 can go,even my dark, suffering at 520 also cry.gif ,next demo will try with x6800
get p35 if u r using quad,else not worthy to upgrade from p965 biggrin.gif
one thing i don like is the vcore option,1.6v straight jump to 1.65v following by 1.7v and so

yeah... it's strange why once above 1.6vcore, the increment wil be 0.5vcore. from 1.6vcore, then next one will be 1.65vcore then 1.7vcore on bios. but that's only on 1.6vcore and above.

taxidoor: the location is the biggest problem for OC Lanparty. any suggestion? cause if we intend to get Lowyat Plaza concourse level, the place they do all the events, it will cost a bomb. and if we are not doing it in Lowyat Plaza, i don't think sponsors will be interested because their marketing purposes won't be met.

actually i asked a lot of ppl. and their answer is always NO. according to many friends and some lowyat shops, Lowyat Plaza Management won't do anything without profit. but that's just assumption. it's not really true unless i really go find out. but hardwares sponser not really hard. already there are some brands has shown some interest.

anyway, i actually did call up to Lowyat Management. they say the rental for the concourse level for event depends on our proposal. so now we need to come out with some proposals if really want to do to OC Lanparty. there are actually many type of OC Lanparty. if we intend to do the 'gathering' OC Lanparty, it would be like ppl coming to the event, bringing their own rig and OC they already-oced rig to the event. it's actually not really meaningful apart of the chances to meet up forumers and get to share some knowledge among ourselves.

however, the actualy OC Lanparty that we intend to do is like the one VR-Zone did. it's a competition OC Lanparty where ppl get some identical hardwares on the spot and OC it for the 1st time. for example, everyone will be given Team Ram and maybe Asus Striker to OC for the event. so practically participants only need to bring their PSU.

both the 2 kinds of OC Lanparty involve same problem. location. even if we want to organise a 'gathering' type OC Lanparty, we need to forumer house where it can fit it something like 20 rigs. i got a place, a food court belongs to my friend. but it's in SITIAWAN.

anyway, if you have suggestion on the OC Lanparty or you want to help us to enquire Lowyat Management whether they can sponser us or not or even sponser us some hardwares that you are bulking, do let us know. we would definately put up 'taxidoor' for marketing for sure if you sponser. hehe... thanks
