I got an offer for the maxed out 2017 13” TB model with i7 (3.5ghz), 16GB of ram, 512gb of ssd for RM6600 (brand new sealed in box).
I’m battling within myself if I should get the 2018 TB base model instead with a quad core processor, T2 chips, better keyboard, True Tone display etc.
The Mac will be solely use for learning purpose at home with some light internet browsing. My main concern is the longevity of the Mac for the next few years as I will want to keep this Mac for at least 3 years.
*ps I owned a 2017 13 base model (Tb) for a year and sold it off due to screen issue, this would be my second Mac.
I did made my own research on many website but mostly ppl are comparing either the 2017 13 W/out touchbar and the 2018 tb base model hence I’m posting this out to seek for opinions. Thanks.

Hi, Do you mind to share where you can get this offer? the spec is really good with maxed out.
i am actually looking for this, i don't mind for old model as long as it is brand new and sealed in box and with 1 year apple warranty.
i can extend the warranty with apple care.
Thanks.

go for 2018 TB model. the improve for quard core vs dual core for base model can make difference for certain use cases.

however, do wait til 30 October apple announce new products then decide. there is a possibility for new budget macbook to be out.

I got this offer from carousell. I did end up getting this Mac and quite liking it. It is brand new sealed in box not activated yet, it lack of the 2018 new features but for the price I think it’s quite worth it haha.

Too bad I already pulled the trigger haha. What u said is right, single cpu score of the i7 still beats the 2018 base model but lose on the multi core score

according to review, the base model of macbook pro 2018 is a lot faster than last year.
importantly the quard core makes a big difference.

i owned the 2017 MBP TB when it is out for not long last year. jealous about the CPU upgrade this year. hahaha.

now it is more exciting to know what are the suprise that apple is going to bring to the table on 30 October 2018.
If it has a new macbook air (rebrand) with upgraded processor and everything and again lower price tag, it will certainly be a new hot choice but most since the current MBP is relatively more expensive than before (vs 2015 model).
