Dailytech conducted a 3 month study of online tech publication practises and uncovers some pretty nice stuff smile.gif

It is unfortunate but understandable that no names were revealed. I wonder if any malaysian websites were in the list... wink.gif

I have long suspected some publications (non-hardware related) of "payola"- when you see review standards are so uneven and subjective for a mere product (not my wife or something laugh.gif ) you know they're on money. Or crack in that matter.

Read this yesterday on DT and yeah, by far the best editorial article. No real names but at least maybe we'll be trusting fellow forumers instead from now on. tongue.gif

Let's not even talk about Malaysian websites. The more we keep it in the dark and our hearts, the less bloody the following gnawing will be. rclxm9.gif

Can you even trust forumers these days with viral marketing schemes becoming ever more prevalent?

There are sites which are trustworthy. You just have to know which ones. ALL sites show that the R600 isn't doing so hot (no pun intended), so are you saying there is a MASSIVE conspiracy against AMD by all the online publications?

Nothing new here, happens to printed tech pubs as well. Take hardware mag for example, all their reviews are between 8-9.5/10. Its like the only justifying point in their price increase is more pictures of scantily clad chicks in various expo/fairs.

They said the same thing with NV30 as well. Haha i still remember the rumors of dx9.1 which would supposedly give it a 60% boost in performance.

Dx10 performance will show whether or not R600 is ATI's nv30 (nv30 was so-so in dx8 performance but sucked balls in dx9). R600 seems so-so in dx9...

So the bottom line is what?

Trust no one and buy blindly and stupidly because it's the smart thing to do?

looks like it's back to the 1980s, when computer salesman go door to door and our parents just buy anything they promote.

If we are well educated in PC related stuff, we should be able to judge whether the reviews are biased or not.

Internet/magazines reviews are paid for (yes, every single one of them). You end-user consumers are blind enough to believe everything is true. The result is mostly fixed. It is actually a way for manufacturer to get better chance at selling their things.

Do the benchmark review yourself. Seeing, touching is believing.

It's easier to draw a line. Previous posts, attitude etc. Viral people hardly have time to "establish" a good "forum rep" on lots of forums.

With signature leaf-blowers too! flex.gif
But seeing how ATi turned things around partly for the X1800 and completely for the X19XX series I have more hope. Well, little hope now.
Nvidia couldn't save themselves on FX because before that they never needed saving! laugh.gif

Haha that is just paranoia. There are quite a few online publications that actually do a good job.

You would be surprised. These guys are professionals. Companies like Nvidia and Microsoft don't pay money to have a bunch of tards posting fanboi messages in forums, because that already happens regardless.
