Today we had gathering with some friends over dinner. One of them is from a mnc which recently implemented erp system called SAP. So now they want to build internal IT team to support this system and enhance it. Dunno why my fren said, it is so hard to hire someone who can handle support and also do configuration of the system. I checked google, sap looks like a popular system! So i dunno why cannot find such IT staff meh? Anyone got such experience to share?

Many factors when you couldn't hire the right person to do the job. Either the job is too tedious with little to no help (see the JD knows it's one leg kick many), pay offered doesn't commensurate with work, location of office - parking, food etc is expensive, the recruiter has standards too high etc. If it's none of that, then it's like they're advertising at the "wrong" period - as most people are reluctant to leave at this time of the year when bonus is near. Also since he's looking for a SAP consultant, use Head Hunters to do the job.

SAP support is a difficult market. Once they get expereince alot tend to come out and be a freelance as there is where the money is. People who are experience in SAP and willing to do support are MOSTLY tired of flying and projects and just want a normal 9-5 job. Mind you they dont come cheap.

If you hire someone fresh and train them up, be prepare that they will leave once they get the skills as they will earn more in projects. Hence the company will need to have a proper career path for a candidate. At the same time I would suggest hiring a mix of senior and junior.

This from my experience of hiring SAP consultants for both projects and also support and also ini different countries.

Just tell to your friends, it's not only SAP, others IT sector also the same. My previous company, wanna hire system consultant also hard.

1. Expectation from the company is too high from the candidates
2. Salary range, below average compared to market
3. Bad reviews from the website (JobStreet, GlassDoor etc.)
4. IT bro, job hop is normal. biggrin.gif

Basically this happens to all things IT related. They'd rather spend on 2nd or 3rd stringers from India, Philippines or Thailand or Vietnam from outsourced companies. If you want Malaysians, go search in Singapore.
