anyone got e-coupon for special promotion for inspiron 1420???

Can I ask one more question? Is the speaker for 1420 stereo or just mono? Some 14.1" dell laptop like D620 has just mono speaker

Just came back from the road show in Sunway Pyramid, ordered 2 unit of Inspiron 1420 -T5250 C2D 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD, Windows Vista Home Premium (+RM115), GeForce 8400 GS w 128MB (+RM175) & DVD+/-RW. Since I've upgraded more than RM250, I got a discount of RM89, so the total is RM 2817, which is quite a good price.

However, I was taken off guard that when I upgrade to GeForce 8400 GC, I would also have to upgrade the power adapter to 90W (+RM 17).

Here is what I have noticed with the hands on between 1420 (14.1") & 1520(15.4"). In term of price, both 1420 & 1520 are almost the same.

Inspiron 1420
- Intel T5250 C2D 1.5GHZ (RM2599)
- 14.1" wide screen with True Life (+RM52)
- 2GB RAM
- 80GB HD
- Vista Home Premium (+RM115)
- GeForce 8400GS w 128MB GC(+RM175)
- 90W Adapter(+RM17)
- Total: RM2958

Inspiron 1520
- Intel T5250 C2D 1.5GHZ (RM2999)
- 15.4" wide screen with True Life
- 2GB RAM
- 80GB HD
- Vista Home Premium
- GeForce 8400GS w 128MB GC
- 90W Adapter
- Total: RM2999

Difference: RM41 & Screen Size.

In term of usability, I would say
Inspiron 1420 -
Pro
- Suitable for student who would need to bring the laptop around for assignments do research. Possible to be lifted up with 1 hand.
- Speaker located above speaker & should provide nice music when working on keyboard.
Cons
- Screen a little small & does not have much desktop space to work around in windows
- Body Build is still not as solid as Compaq & still has a very plastic feeling.

Inspiron 1520 -
Pro
- Suitable for people who wants a Desktop replacement & does not move the laptop around a lot. A bit heavy even if lifting it up with 2 hands.
- Large screen provide a lot of desktop space to work around in windows.
Cons
- However, resolution at 1280x800 is very grainy on the 15.4" display & should be upgraded to at least 1440x900.
- Speaker located below the keyboard & Facing downwards. Can have distortion when listening to music while working on keyboard as the hand will be blocking the speaker.
- Body Build is still not as solid as Compaq & still has a very plastic feeling.

Inspiron 1720
Pro
- To be used for gaming / Graphics programs
- Everything is HUGE.
Cons
- HUGE. Can't be carried around. Absolutely a Desktop replacement. I even have problem lifting it up & always feeling that I will drop that whole thing.

Yeah, I feel that also. That's why I upgraded my Windows to home premium.

Oh... There is this thing that they say in the Road show, which is about the "Dell Price Guarantee". If in case the price of Dell machine with the similar spec drops in the next 2 weeks, or can be purchased at lower price when called to their call center, Dell will either give you the lower price, or cancel your order at your request.

So for those who has been delaying their purchase until PC Fair, since PC Fair is just around 2 weeks away, there is no need to wait, as the price won't be dropped a lot and if it does, Dell will refund us or cancel our order & let us buy the new unit with the lower price.

Happy to hear that you already ordered it.Btw ,where did you get the pro and cons from ?
As i mention in my post, the Pro & Cons are my personal opinion from the hands on of all the 3 models I've played around in the RoadShow. Just tot of sharing with others since not many people have the chance to play around with all the 3 models at the same time.

so what do u think of white color 1420?i just ordered that one rclxms.gif

They don't have white color on display. I guess they are short of the white color since in the website they said "Available with extended delivery timeline from 25th July 2007. Date is estimate only and subject to delay."
White color is with glossy finish (the one like apple's laptop feel).
All other colors are with microsatin finish (smooth & silky feel).

Bluetooth is important, TrueLife is sometimes annoying bcoz it reflects like mirror.

In the roadshow, the salesperson kept asking me to add in the Dell 355 Bluetooth Module (+RM77) which supports Bluetooth 2.0 & EDR which I don't really fancy. They said that it can used to support wireless headphone + wireless mouse. However, wireless bluetooth headphone is expensive & coupled with battery requirement, the headphone would very heavy. Wireless mouse are mostly using radio frequency, not bluetooth.

So I can see that Bluetooth used to transfer files data to handset only, but this can also be done using USB cable. Can you give more example on what other usage of bluetooth?

I just went to All IT Hypermart in Digitalmall PJ. Targus Pulse II is selling for RM249. So just by adding RM38 for this backpack, it's much worth it.
