Hi to all the pros here, I am going to build my own rig for the first time, the one i am currently using was build by viewnet 7 years ago. I figure it's time to change and keep my old pc at my hometown as I travelling weekly. (Don't want to invest in laptop coz it's very expensive)

I would like to seek for advice from u all and see some of the parts, do I really need that specific model or there is alternative?

My current PC spec:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
CPU cooler: Hyper212 EVO
Mobo: ASUS m4a77td
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB, Apacer Panther AS340 120GB
HDD: WD Green 1TB
Ram: Budget Kingston RAM 6GB
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC
PSU: 500w (don't know what brand)

--------------------------------------------------
My NEW planned PC spec: (RM2800+-) exclude the SSD and GPU (from old PC)
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
CPU cooler: Stock wraith prism
Mobo: MSI B450 Tomahawk (owned)
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB (from old PC)
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB
Ram: 1 x 8GB Adata XPG D41 3200mhz (Budget problem, will get 2nd stick in future)
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC (from old PC)
PSU: CM Masterwatt 650w 80plus Bronze semi-fanless
Chasis: CM MasterBox K500L

I am planning to use this PC for another 5-7 years, therefore I choose the high end processor and leave some space for future upgrade.

I am gonna use this rig for designing works (Ai/PS/CorelDraw), video rendering (AfterFx/Premier Pro), and some casual gaming (FIFA title, GTA, Batman AK & etc)

I hope I can get more advice or comment from ppl with experiences in DIY PC. Especially in RAM part, nowadays the price for RAM is crazy. I choose this model becoz it is Ryzen compatible and Samsung chip. Is there any alternative in similar price point?

Same goes to the PSU and HDD...

Thanks in advance. thumbup.gif

Good parts overall, but maybe get a new and slightly larger SSD. 120GB is not that big and after years of rewrite, it may not be so reliable. Possibly consider 480-500GB (Prices between RM 400-RM650 for quite solid ones.)

You can get a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB for pretty good prices online. Get that plus the second stick of RAM when you can.

If you want to upgrade storage in the future a NvmE gives a faster transfer rate (uses the PCIe bus) than a SSD (SATA speeds)

Yes, good parts.

Please add some storage.

Even 120GB and 1TB also barely enough for me.

For this level of PC go for SSD size instead of speed . RM 300 can get you a Kingston 480GB SSD now .

And one more thing , dont fall for AMD X chip trap its basically marketing . 2700x and 2700 are literally the same chip but with different clock speed , buy the 2700 non x and adjust the clock speed to match the 2700x save RM 200+ from that . Thank me later

Agreed, the difference is minimal and not worth the price difference.

Yea . Not only that bro , you can adjust the clock speed to match the x chip as well . The price gap between the 2 chip is too huge , the difference of RM 200+ can you a liquid cooler although not necessary for that chip .
