Cool. I'll wait for PCIE 4.0 or 5.0 generation though.
So many power hungry hardware now. USB 3.1, 10 Gigabit network, WIFI AC 5300. PCIE 3.0 will need at least X4 slot.

I think referring to intel 4th gen. I suppose that is fair. Don't be early adopters and wait for proper review. I am using 2th gen till today, and only got 8th gen gaming parts last month. QUOTE(trollminator @ Oct 10 2018, 11:58 AM) am planning to get the 8th gen core i3 8100, should i wait? Depends on what you have now and what is your upgrade for. If you are still using Q6600, the 8100 is going to blow it away and really worth it.

Using 8th gen, don't see how 9th gen is going to be any much better.

Typically performance difference you'll see is 2 generation gaps onwards.
In this case the 9th generation I find is mostly for the i9 to debut on their consumer line-up.

Well, we sort of know that Intel has that tic-toc cycle... and motherboards are usually good for 2 generations... starting from Sandybridge. In the same way, looks like 8 and 9th gen is compatible with Z390 and Z370 boards (Z370 probably requiring bios update)
Due to small incremental increases, you actually need to see 3-4 gen difference to be worthwhile. Such as Sandybridge upgrade to Skylake... Unless you are the type to always want the latest and greatest.
In the resale market, usually people will give up GPUs after 2-3 years, but CPUs maybe 4-6 years.

I'm using i7-4960X is it worth to upgrade to i9-9900K? Will I feel the extreme boost in performance in terms of gaming.?

It feels like Intel is playing catch up to AMD with the 8core 16 threads. And AMD retaliate by reducing price of 2700x. Well played.

It's got nothing to do with the chipset. It's how the VRMs are designed and how it is implemented. The K6 that Skylinestar uses is enough for the 9600k and 9700k. But the 9900k will be pushing it and if OCing that'd be playing with fire.

Understanding my Mobo already reach its age (in terms CPU support). Already syukur if support latest 9 series non-k. This post has been edited by Skylinestar: Oct 22 2018, 07:57 PM
