It started when I notice I got my account Turbo-Upgraded. yeay! or so it seems....

as the speedtest is saying otherwise...

So I head to livechat support like any other sane person would do lah...

The 1st livechat person was very straight forward, asked me to do speedtest at TM spedtester and copied the link, shared it to her.

Then she asked me to turn off the BTU and wifi for 15 secs, but before that I switch to mobile data so I won't get disconnected.

After turning the BTU and wifi back on I did another speedtest (not from my mobile data, I have a macmini connected directly to the wifi router using ethernet cable)

So I shared the speed result to her and then it began...

The livechat lady went silent for quite sometime, like more than 10 mins (yeah I waited).

So I tried to connect to livechat again and got connected with this guy... and I promptly told him I've connected with livechat previously and was disconnected I thought and I just want to continue from where we left off..

And the below happened...

they're just following scripts man.. this is the case for every customer support. Just be patient and layan kebangsatan itu semua. They'll eventually reach the end of the scripts and maybe escalate you.

looks like ancient mac mini, are you sure it could sustain higher than 300mbps (i do remember my old acer 5920g could only sustain 30MB/s transfer speed only via LAN, its hard disk sequential speed is up to 55MB/s)
also whats your turbo speed?

I have Acer travelmate X and did the test using cable as well and getting same result (although it doesn't have built in ethernet port, using usb ethernet port) but come on, it can't be speed reduced that much? it was 5-6mbps, basically much lower than before upgraded, was on 10mbps

oh turbo-ed supposed to be 100mbps. 30MBs is to be expected la for mac mini but this is like 6MB/s one, lower than 10MB/s

Take some decent laptop or computer with gigavit LAN port and use Cat6 cable to connect and test

If really bad like single digit streamyx speed, call TM again

If u get like 300+ (but is 500mbps plan) high likely ur router unable to handle higher speed, even though it's Gigabit router, u need some higher end router for 500mbps or above

Also take note that old or slow hdd might also affect the download speed, but unlikely unless u have like pc, laptop from 10 years ago

I would've been happy if got 30MB/s (Turbo-ed 100MB/s). But I am getting single digit shitty 6MB/s, slower than before upgrade from 10MB/s

At least they will pass someone really know whats going on to help u, or they will just send technician to go ur premises to check if unable to solve on phone call

because its a mac, dont assume it well get driver support as good as windows.
have you check the link speed, are you getting 1000mbps or not?

Go to the lan settings, windows will advise you where the bottleneck is.

2. is there any significant difference in pricing for the above cables?

3. usually the lan cable that comes with modem/router is of which category?

TM guy is asking for lan cable setup and not whether TS is using lan cable.

There is a difference right.

TS answers should be using Cat 5e cable with network card etc

you lan port is gig or 100mbps. must use cat5e and above provided your router is gig
