I'm saving up to upgrade my PC. I have about 3k atm, gonna have about 6.5k by the end of the year.

My current PC is currently having
Xeon e3 1231 v3
4gb x 4 ddr 3 ram
z97m plus
b700 v2 psu
zotac 980ti reference

Should I go for a cpu upgrade? ( Planning to go for 8700K ) or go for a gpu ( Planning to go for rtx 2080 )

I mainly play FFXIV and Destiny 2, and prolly some bdo at times.

Thanks to all sifus first haha

Change CPU > MOBO > RAM

Better change CPU first > GPU is still reasonable.

Change CPU need to change Mobo also. Better save up more to change need PC if u want.

Else go for RTX 2080 and hope for ur current CPU wont bottleneck ur GPU

Yea.. Im ready to change everything, thus trying to save up to 6.5k.

Just not sure which to go for first atm.

Xeon E3-1231 V3 = Core i7-4770

Dont see any issue there. Unless you are getting stutters like the games I play. Its time to increase the cores.

What is your monitor resolution?

RTX 2080? It is overpriced. TS may not need 2080 if his monitor resolution is mid range.

Im playing with QHD. Using Dell's U2515H. What kind of games do you play tho?

cuz find that rtx 2080 and gtx 1080ti not much difference, so maybe should be jump onto the newer range.

your Xeon e3 1231 v3 is just 20-25% slower than i7 7700 which should be adequate enough. Maybe do a rtx2080 upgrade first..

2560x1440. Yeah, GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti is more than enough. RTX 2080 is overpriced.

I play all sorts of game.

GPU. GTX 1080 Ti is a lot cheaper than RTX 2080. I would buy GTX 1080 Ti or wait for RTX 2080 price drop when AMD actually has something to compete.

Best way to know is install msi afterburner and check on the fly the CPU and GPU utilization.

If your CPU is hovering like 90% and below when playing games and the GPU is 98-99%, mostly likely no CPU bottleneck on that game at your monitor resolution and game’s graphic settings.

From what I know, online mmorpgs usually uses alot CPU power

Now you have 3k just change a 1080 now and enjoy , no need ti la , save the money for cpu later or upgrade with nvme ssd
Or
Change the cpu now and wait for the new gen card price comes down or more new card options then only choose.

FYI , I use vega 64 for 1440p no problem with ultra setting with 60 FPS above in destiny 2

I'm still slowly saving.. Should be able to get 6k by the end of the year.. So just asking first nia..
I'm using a 980Ti tho, feel like not much performance upgrade to 1080 ba?

Vega 64 is better than 980Ti I think haha.. I can play with max but once I scope, the fps drop like crazy..
