Ever since the speed upgrades, I have been noticing a lot of total connection loss to my condo.

Seems to happen more frequently at night, if I download a large file, then the connection will drop completely in my entire house, wired , wireless, different access points, totally gone.

Usually the connection will re-establish itself after 15-30 mins, occasionally if I reset the modem, it will reconnect quicker.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? I am in Bangsar.

Not sufficient. You have to get a better router. See here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4658096

Or read green text on my signature.
Try with a different better router. Sounds like your router hardware can't handle the processing of the download. You are using the TP-Link C1200 or the DIR-850L?

Using a Linksys EA6500

But I will troubleshoot with a different router.

So far EA6500 we only received one feedback on the disconnection & slowness.

DIR850L is the most common one after the speed boost on 6 Oct.
*
Funnily enough the disconnections usually only happen during peak times 8-10pm....rest of the time seems ok...I initially thought it was some kind of throttling/traffic regulation measures, but executed poorly on their end?

We will see if a new router fixes the issues.

I've been using the 6500 for a 500Mbps subscription for a couple years already...

yeah, always get dc when i download something.. sometimes the router will automatic restart for no reason

I'm using a Linksys EA6500, but the disconnects are weird for me. It NEVER disconnects during off-peak hours. But regularly disconnects around 8-10pm if I download something large. Does yours occur every single time no matter what?

Anyway we'll see what the new router does.

I remember a few weeks ago, there were other forum posters that seemed to only have issues during peak periods as well, making everyone wonder if time was throttling or restricting access.

Hi everyone,

I have subscribed to Time's 100Mbps plan, and they have given me a TP-Link Archer C1200 router.
I noticed that whenever my wife is downloading a few episodes of her dramas (I believe it is like torrent, but Chinese version) at once, the router will become unresponsive, and we will have no internet access. The only way to solve this is to power off and on the router again. It used to be able to handle like 5 episodes at once, but now it even downloading 3 episodes at once will make it freeze.

So my question is, is this an issue with my router? If yes, can it be fixed? If it can't be fixed, is there a good replacement router that you can recommend?
Thank you!

There seems to be some form of control going on with Time. I was just speaking to them on the phone, as I have a similar issue you are describing. I don't torrent, but I buy a lot of PSN and Steam games which are quite sizable, and I also stream a lot of content from Netflix/Hulu/Amazon. Anyway , when we spoke the lady told me I had used 35gb in the last few hours and that was extremely high, and that should be one week's worth of fair usage, and when that happens I need to reset my router. We had a bit of an argument about what is fair usage, especially in this day and age of everything being digital and the pure size of content. Seems like Time is a bit behind the Time in this regard. I'm rather disappointed in their response.

Well that's a silly response. 35GB is nothing.. They better rollback such tactics and not even try to impose such on my account.. Else I'll give the higher ups an earful. What are they thinking? That people sub to 500Mbps and 1Gbps speeds to just browse text on web pages?  doh.gif  doh.gif

I had uploaded about 1Gb of video to YouTube, basically a short 4K clip of some drone footage. She said that 1Gb is worth a week of fair uploading. Gobsmacked.

Anyone still experience some kind of throttling/slowdown?

I am on a 1Gbps account.

Downloading the Division 2. Was getting 100 Mb/sec on download, then at 8/42 GB for the download, internet cut. Had to reset router.

After reset router getting 100 Mb/sec again, then at 18/42 Gb on the download...internet cut again. Just had to do another router reset.

Cut again at 28/42 Gb.......

Anyone else experiencing this?

This must be something on Time's end, where they are monitoring bandwith use.

Hi Tan,

So far our side has not experienced any throttling yet.
But instead of wondering/guessing.. please bypass the router and perform a direct connection to the ONU to test again.

Thanks.
*
I will try that.

This actually started happening only after the upgrade to 1Gbps, and I've been a max plan subscriber of Time for over 6-7 years.

They even changed the modem for me a month or so ago, and yet this still happens.

Will give a direct connection a go...

Not normal. Which router that you're using it?
Which area are you in?

How many times got disconnected?

Thanks.

Bangsar, Zehn Pantai Condominium.

6-7 times in the span of 2 hours that I am aware of.

Hi, you're using C1200 right?

This router has common issues of random reboot.

Thanks.
*
No, I am using a Linksys.

It's currently an EA6350 I do believe, it was changed recently from another Linksys I've had for the past three years.

Basically I've been a top tier package subscriber to Time for over seven years, back when it was 30Mbps.

For the past few years on a 500Mbps package, and over the entire duration as a Time subescriber I've had hardly any noticable issues with connectivity. Suddenly when 1Gbps was introduced, I started getting very regular disconnects on the old Linksys router. So the 6350 was brought in as a replacement.

Sadly I'm still getting issues with my connection. If I download something at near max speed, it will almost always disconnect.

Hi Tan,

Feel free to bypass the router and connect direct to the ONU, see if the same issues repeat ?

Thanks.

Thanks,

I will try to circumvent the router, but doesn't the router have some Time login information?
