Hi guys,
Im on 500mbps plan and seeking suggestions on the right router since the plans have been upgraded.
Im using ASUS RT-N56U and my max speed is at 160mbps at most on my Android and my pc/iphone in my room max 60 mbps. On top of that im using 2 powerlines as the the wifi is very weak.
Hence, I need to upgrade my router to a better one and keen on Asus or perhaps a mesh wifi. If i do purchase a better router, do i need to search for cat 6 copper cable separately as the cables provided with router is not cat 6?
Thanks all

QUOTE(ryukick @ Oct 14 2018, 11:06 AM) How's the performance for the powerline? How fast is the speed ? I know expensive routers are the way to go but I have many walls in my home so even the most expensive wireless router will not give me the speeds I desire at the rooms located far away from the router. I'm using the Tenda AC 15 router - was good before - now with the 500 Mbps speed I can't achieve the published speed unless I'm very close to the router when on 5Ghz. The powerline speed is bad although it shows the same as wireless, my gaming was constantly spiking on the latency. I unplugged the powerline and it went smoothly. My house have not much walls, its a 800 sq ft apartment but somehow the speed is mediocre. My room have power adapters but no built in ethernet socket on the wall. On a sidenote, which is better? D-Link DIR 882 or ASUS RT-AC1300UHP in terms of value for money and performance? And does using powerline able to make the wifi signal stronger? This is because im using 2 powerlines by putting 1 in each room as its in wifi dead zone Thank you all for your opinions This post has been edited by Rexoz: Oct 15 2018, 12:42 AM

QUOTE(jjj2 @ Oct 15 2018, 12:31 AM) It depends on which type of Mesh routers, some the main/primary unit will need to connect to the router whereas some can directly perform pppoe dialing...the pairing units can work with/without cable. DIR-882 & AC1300UHP more or less the same in real world performance. Thank you jjj2, I would like to ask, will the usage of powerline able to make the wifi signal stronger? This is because im using 2 powerlines by putting 1 in each room as its in wifi dead zone

QUOTE(jjj2 @ Oct 15 2018, 08:07 AM) Hi, Welcome. Though you can use powerline to extend the signal coverage to another corner (Eg. room) but the speed/bandwidth you will be getting will be significantly reduced. Like your case (Eg. 500Mbps), if you depend on the powerline c/w wireless type, the performance will be disappointing for both signal coverage & speed. If you don't mind for the speed drops, and that area you wanna cover cannot be effectively covered by wireless bridging then you can consider powerline. If you want performance, many times powerline is not really plug & play as it claims to be.... understanding & tuning of electrical characteristics needs to be done. Anyway if your friends have a pair of them, just borrow and test before buying. * Wait for real AV2 powerlines to be available.QUOTE(Proton2.0 @ Oct 15 2018, 09:01 AM) I think powerlines are good maybe 5 years ago...as its better than WiFi N and few people have internet beyond 100Mbps back then. What is powerline AV2, new standard? Btw, seems like lots of people not getting the advertised speed after upgrade here....is it TIME's infra being pushed to the limit? I think they really cant handle the additional bandwidth load....dont think got so much problem previously....cukur my place steady 500Mbps. Thanks guys, I might just wanna upgrade my router to ASUS AC86U and remove my powerlines haha
