Wah Lau...

Wireless performance is a little worse across all, especially upload speed.

I tested in my room, then came out, the technician already smiled and say "Speed drop?". Guess he already know. doh.gif

I will use it a while and see how it goes.

My old TPLINK AC1900 also better.... bangwall.gif

This is what I had shared. 🤪

But to be fair, all the free wifi 6 mesh given by telcos all the same. The mesh wifi 6 router I got from unifi also same especially they are all dual-band.

PCIe Wifi card is forever better than USB ones, most wifi 6 cards based on Intel AX200 are good

even on say, that Gigabyte board with built in wifi, you can actually replace the wifi card
guide: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/replacing-w...-strix/155874/2
(guide is for an asus board but it's all the same)

ideally, if one can put in a mesh node inside their rooms where PCs are in, connecting them to the mesh node via wired, one can get full speed also even wifi cannot.

i am referring to mesh node (wireless backhaul somemore). of course between the mesh parent and child nodes must be within good coverage...

TIME has upgraded the back end line. Now running on my existing equiopment.

My Room PC - WIFI AC - 24xMbps
My Phone (from my room) - Wifi AC - 24xMbps
Another Room (closer to router) - WIFI AC - 300Mbps
Wired PC - 500Mbps

Later after TIME upgraded the equipment, i will test again and feedback here.

Update:

I have a question. If i still setup a 2.4Ghz for old equipment, will it interfere with the 5Ghz Wifi band? I think i have found occasion where something funny happens, phone connected to 2.4Ghz wifi and it actually interferes with my PC badly. Once all join back to 5Ghz, no problem.
*
u should just simply separete ssid for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, then only connect ur devices to 5Ghz, then no such prob...

Saving is the same, both also save you RM240 for 2 years contract.
But as new account get you a free modem.

After 2 years, we expect broadband should be cheaper or faster anyhow.

Time didn't appreciate the long time user very much nowadays. I been using this TIME account since 2014.
I do feel reluctant to give away the seniority and start again as newbie, but free modem + RM240 + RM100 (for friend) is not a bad deal for the trouble.

QUOTE(jack2 @ Feb 23 2024, 12:32 PM)
Yes, they don't care when you already be their subscribers. The loyalty program is only applicable for those who are at 20 or above months in each contract period and it is NOT counted from since joined...

Because gather new subscribers can only increase their earnings but at the same time, existing clients lari also even before contract is expired.
*
unifi has actually treated the old customers better. they have the SWU programme for existing customers who recontract to get higher speed with lower price. and with the two free speed upgrades and price reduction so far... many users had benefited a lot.. which most are paying as low as rm119 for 500Mbps plan... some special cases even paying cheaper...

I use the 1Gbps to download Linux ISOs  biggrin.gif
You know the drills...downloading fried prawn cookies and stuffs

I am using dedicated direct cable connect to my server to do the download stuffs, so i am sort of using the internet speed wisely
*
ic.. ya i know... friendly version... tongue.gif

but seriously unless one really does it 24x7 then can fully utilise the speed... and if one really 24x7 download at such speed, u need a lot a lot a lot of storage to keep those stuff. tongue.gif ended up higher cost on storage instead...

QUOTE(BladeRider88 @ Feb 23 2024, 12:47 PM)
Hahaha...nice move  cool2.gif
Actually i dont care the wifi speed that much, as long it is not sloppy and choppy, i am live with old wifi 5 for now
as long my pocket not wounded badly  drool.gif
*
yeah... speed is just one factor, more importantly latency and stability... tongue.gif

QUOTE(INGfusion @ Feb 23 2024, 12:37 PM)
yup they wont give a sh1t for long time user, they just like "we are famous now" you happy than you diam diam stay, no happy than switch to other provider
*
actually not exactly becos they are famous... actually unifi is also more attractive and the network is actually better than time also. tongue.gif only advantage about time is that their upload speed is higher than unifi on the same speed of plan.

so if one has both time and unifi coverage, also can consider to switch to unifi.

for my case, i am stuck becos the apartment i stay only has time as option... sad.gif

You speak of my heart...yeah i need lots of storage  rclxub.gif  And i am doing backup to cloud as well, hence the download & upload is ongoing 24/7

True, so far i have decent performance from the old man AC68U, despite being old, but still solid enough
*
haha... i know that becos i was on 1Gbps plan before... download is super fast... a linux ISO image download is only within seconds... tongue.gif

most of the time i was dealing with storage issues... so i had many many TBs of hardisks i had brought..
but i had quitted from it... else the money to buy new storage will be endless.. tongue.gif plus the fact that unless i am buying SSDs which are even more ex... else if using the mechanical one, the chance for it to fail can be high too.. tongue.gif

I think it is unfair to have 30 days notice period sedangkan early termination is compounded with RM500, but still need to wait 30 days.

If everyone boycotts not to sign any package with contract, I believe the consequences will be the Meddi or StaBuc
*
Since it is common practice for unifi, I find it a prob.

If time follows the rest to charge remaining months of subscriptions instead of rm500 fixed penalty only I wlll be more worried.

Speed on wifi 5 mesh…

I think I will stick to my 500Mbps contract for 2 years before I consider to switch plan. After all the lowest plan I can switch to is rm99 100Mbps. Which my 500Mbps is average at rm129 per month for 2 years.

Rm30 difference but 4x speed although I did not really utilise but seems to be ok. Anyway nowadays, rm30 is really nothing and so small that one cannot do much with it.

seems like they have included the 2.5g onu if i were to renew my contract. question i wanna ask, if i renew my contract, how soon can i upgrade to 2gbps?
*
U must see if ur apartment support 2Gbps plan I think. Not all apartment support it. If supported, once they come to install for u it will be up almost immediately.

Hi, I've a question. I've subscribed to Time 500Mbps on August last year. Now, I feel like want to downgrade to 100Mbps coz I feel like 500Mbps is way more than what I need. If I downgrade will there be any penalty? And for the router, do I need to return?
*
go to time portal, under manage plan, u can choose to downgrade, since ur plan is more than 6 months..
do note that there will be contract renewal of 24 months again.

maybe i can consider to do so after 6 months for my current plan... since first 6 months is rm99/mth (discounted price with first month free)... just nice on 7th i will be paying rm139/mth, i can switch to 100Mbps at rm99/mth to see if i can really survive with it (which likely i should be able to since previously i am on tm 100Mbps unifi plan before i upgraded to 300Mbps and free upgrade to 500Mbps also. tongue.gif

so do it after 6 months for contract renewal is still not too bad... at least first 6 months i already enjoyed price discounted.

being said so, i probably should have signed up rm99 100Mbps at the begining to just enjoy first month free also. since also same, paying rm99 per month...

contract over.. no need to do anything just continue to use...

but just to note if after contract over, whethere the previously discounted price will be reverted to normal price or not.. (if applicable)...

Hello. I'm using 100mbps package, previously downgraded from 500mbps after 6 months of subscription.

Currently there is new promotion for 500mbps that gives out a new wifi6 mesh node as part of the package, is the mesh node significantly better than the wifi5 mesh node?

Question:
1) Am I eligible for the promo?
2) How can I get this promo? Through the upgrade on Self Care?
3) Do I get to downgrade to 100mbps afterwards after 6 months?
*
1) u have no more contract or still under contract? i believe ur previous downgrade should have caused u to be on 24 months contract again?
2) As existing customers, if one is eligible for any recontract over, normally time will send u the offer via email i think.
normally these are for no contract customers, or customers who have contracts that are going to end soon..
3) for ur case, if u manage to recontract for another 24 months, after 6 months, u should be able to downgrade ur speed by recontract another 24 months.

for those who are on 500Mbps or below only, seriously wifi 5 vs wifi 6, one should not feel much difference, although wifi 6 should still get u faster speed when ur distance to the wifi node is further away. however, if u are within coverage of the main/child nodes, and both ur main and child nodes are having strong signals between them, it should not make a difference.

if u are looking to get the free wifi 6 mesh routers from time to improve ur wifi signal/coverage/speed, u can forget about it... the wifi 6 mesh they give is dual-band which is trash... if ur current wifi 5 is working well, forget about it..

unless ur current wifi 5 is not mesh and is dual-band, if so, yes, maybe the free wifi 6 mesh dual-band will improve a bit...

So, there'll be no penalty and no need return router? Just renewal of contract?

i dun know... haven't tried. u can try to do it. if there is a penalty, it should indicate...

but i doubt so, since ur contract is renewed for 24 months. routers for sure no need to return...

I have done it before
I subscribed to 500Mbps to get the wifi6 devices and enjoy the speed at rm99 for 6 months but fully intend to downgrade to 100mbps to keep the price at rm99

after 6 months pass, the downgrade button in the image above becomes avaliable
once you confirm and submit the downgrade request, you downgrade with a contract reset
so you are back to being stuck with them for 24 months

you get the keep the hardware

the only penalty is the contract reset
*
icic. thanks a lot for the sharing. then i should prepare to downgrade on 15 june 2024. tongue.gif

besides, do u mind to share ur experience after downloading from 500Mbps to 100Mbps now?

My condo is NOT included in the offer -RM20 (RM79/month) for 100Mbps by Umobile fibre. Only the shop lots nearby are in this offer.
*
how u know? u went to their website to sign up but ur apartment is shown as not eligible to sign up or?

I tried mine, i can go all the way to the last step before submitting.

besides, just notice that u mobile fibre rm79 promo price only lasts for 24 months... after 24 months will be back to normal price of rm99.

less rm20x24 month =rm 119, agreed on mesh.. today just upgrade speed suck from 500mb speedtest 100-150mbps only..need to duduk nearby the router(not nearby mesh) only can get 500mbps speedtest
*
today? i tot u had upgraded ur speed sometime back from ur previous post? tongue.gif

yeah... the huawei mesh given by time is just trash.. dun expect too much that it will improve the speed comparing to ur existing devices (even they are just wifi 5).

best solution is to go with FTTR... tongue.gif actually in long run it is not bad investment if u are not moving house anytime.
i just wonder the FTTR devices by time, can it be used with other ISPs next time? or just purely can be used with time only.
