Now i'm using i5-4690, planning to upgrade my old gaming rig.

My friend that working at pc shop offer me i7-6800k, Asus Strix x299 and Kingston 16gb ddr4 2666mhz ram for total rm1800.

Is it worth it or should buy the latest i7-8700k?

in my opinion , it would be better to go with ryzen , more cores and threads . There seem to be alot more patches for specter venerability on intel side which will hinder performance especially games that are protected by denovo.

X299 is not compatible with 6800K. X99 motherboard will cost a lot. Unless it is actually X99. It is worth it. You still need a good cooler though.

By the way, 6800k is 6 core, 12 threads. Ryzen with good mobo will still cost more than that setup if you want same motherboard features. On top of that, it has 28 PCIE lanes.

That is a bargain my friend and look too good to be true, make sure it actually under factory warranty and working properly.

That is quite a deal, especially if you are going to OC it to 4.5+GHz, but end of upgrade path...
It should last you another 3-5 years easy.

Ryzen alternative:
Ryzen 2600X (1000)
B450 (450-500)
16GB DDR4 3000/3200 (750-850)

Unless can get package deal, I don't see how it can go below RM 1800.
