I would like to get a place/venue ( something like garden ) then on the same time ROM ( pay JPN officer come ) at there and lunch/dinner ( buffet style ) at there too. Family/relatives or some friends gathering. Estimated half day done all. Not much heads, around 30-40.

So how am going to do that ?

anyone done it before ?

shall i hire planner ? ( any recommendation ) ?

how much cost would be ? ( estimated )

1) follow any tradition ?
2) usually 30-40 heads type of buffet only provide you the food and no other services (so you need to think about canopy, table, chair + deco and lighting)
3) you might need to find those garden / park which under some private management so that you can access their resources OR else if you find public garden / park , you may need to have more things to headache
4) car park / insects / weather is another concern
5) You need to hire MC as well or else who conduct the event?
6) extra services like photographer/videographer also another concern
7) friend....lunch/dinner is full day not half day

if you don't want headache, hire a planner but make sure your pocket is deep because plenty of service charge will blow your mind
if you want to plan by your own, i estimated roughly you need
1) RM5-7k for food
2) RM3-5k for setup
3) RM1-3k for getting event permit
4) RM500-1500 for MC
5) RM2-4k for photo/video grapher

So total should be around 15-20k at least

As I used to organise company workshops in hotel. In this case, can say I play the position as planner for my company. The task actually not tough.. just get the right hotel and they basically can do everything for you. Ask them for quotation:
- lunch buffet for 40pax.
- rental of the garden venue
- decoration/setup for venue
- you may even ask if they can help to provide a staff as MC
- they can even help you to get a car to fetch your bride.. even a bus for relative.

Some hotel have good Event & Marketing ppl, they are as good as planner. But cost wise, I am not sure if getting a separate planner better or just get a hotel.. and let them handle for you.

Since you're only looking at 30-40 pax this restaurant in KL might suit you. Good food and they have an open area at the back with canopy for events...

And just a reminder, your topic should actually be in a different subforum (Roundtable Discussions > Brides & Grooms). Go check out this guide on how to plan a wedding on a budget. Will give you a better idea of what you need to plan for overall.
