Depends on what you eating............ for rice using hand big no no to me, look really disgusting when using hand to squeeze all those rice in kuah.

Most other solid and dried food like fried chic, fruits, pizza etc okay to use hand....

Normal hand wash won't even clean what's hidden under the finger nails, when using hand to handle and squeeze wet food like rice with kuah, the chances of those germs/dirt transmitting to the food/mouth is higher since it is wet.

Dipping your fingers into wet rice and squeezing the rice directly expose all your dirt/germs under your finger nails to your food.
Solid dried food like fried chicken have lesser such risk.

If u lick your ice-cream also u use those utensils, then pls do what u fancy

If you like to compare like that, then you need not filter/boil your drinking water at home too since when you get lost in jungle you probably can't do the same to the water you found in the wild.

It's about hygiene, nothing to do with civilized or not.
