it depends la actually, for some people, gaming is his / her passion. so, no regret at all. but, for another half, gaming is just another optional things to do in life. for that group, maybe they will regret.
for me, it's ok to get heart attack while playing game rather than got heart attack because of work. not worth it man. because gaming is my passion. errr....am i still in the topic or i'm talking nonsense already. |

This question can be really universal ...
"I can be doing this or that instead of watching tv / listening to music / reading / gaming / sports /" and etc etc As long as you are doing smth you like, it's not time wasting. To each his/her own |

i feel guilty!!!!
what do we gain after playing 2-3-4 hours of video game? nothing!!! i feel terrible if i played too long, cause i know at the end of the day, i get ZERO out of playing game rather than reading books, writing songs, playing my guitar or spending more time with my family. So what i did was, i make sure i control myself on video games, i make sure i've done everything else which is more important than i can rest awhile playing games. Anyway, what do we gain playing games? do we get smarter or something? at least reading a book i get more knowledge and i sharpen my english or whatever other languages i come to read. |

Games do benefit in some ways, not all games are games, take for example Brain Age for the Nintendo DS. Sharpens your mind if you play daily for just 5-10 minutes. That's edutainment.
As for simulations, games like GT/Forza/CMR MAY simulate a driving experience you can't get with your SLK(small little kancil), hence the quote from forza "if you hit the breaks while taking a corner, you'll most likely end up dead". I don't cite NFS cause there was a kid who took his dads Merc up to blazing speeds, got caught, and cops found NFS in passenger seat Video games like from a modified Duck Hunt, Halo, and Doom has been used to military training before. America's Army too. The future army of super soldiers would be geeks w/ keyboard and mouse hidden in a bunker 50ft underground. I would go on more, but I think that's enough example |

rather than read a book,listen to music,watch a movie,look at pictures, i'd rather game.
when you read a book, you are just reading. when you watch a movie, you are just watching and listening when you listen to music, you are only listening when you look at pictures, you are just looking at something. but when you game, you HAVE to read, you HAVE to watch and LISTEN,and you HAVE to give your full attention to it,or else you'd miss some minor details which would probably be catastrophic later on. gaming is a complete package, regardless if it is handheld with petty graphics or next gen with amazing graphics, all those mentioned above still hold true. you dont get this many things from books/music/etc.. and in some instances, you HAVE to use your imagination to solve puzzles as well as strategise dont forget, surgeons play games as well, and studies have shown that surgeons who DO play games, have a better response time, and make fewer mistakes than those who DONT play games. QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Jun 7 2007, 11:44 AM) rather than read a book, listen to music, watch a movie, look at pictures, i'd rather game. LOL, let's just hope them surgeons aren't playing Trauma Center.. If not.. mati oh the patient kena quick-knife when you read a book, you are just reading. when you watch a movie, you are just watching and listening when you listen to music, you are only listening when you look at pictures, you are just looking at something. but when you game, you HAVE to read, you HAVE to watch and LISTEN,and you HAVE to give your full attention to it,or else you'd miss some minor details which would probably be catastrophic later on. gaming is a complete package, regardless if it is handheld with petty graphics or next gen with amazing graphics, all those mentioned above still hold true. you dont get this many things from books/music/etc.. and in some instances, you HAVE to use your imagination to solve puzzles as well as strategise dont forget, surgeons play games as well, and studies have shown that surgeons who DO play games, have a better response time, and make fewer mistakes than those who DONT play games. But good take on the books/movies reference Mgsrulz, while a Pirates 3 movie would last you 3 hours, the game would last you.. um.. more than 3 hours? |
