Haha, got a little shocked when the staff said RM 10.60 for eSim that day...

But the experience was quite seamless  biggrin.gif
I ported in to U Mobile from Celcom recently, I was surprised that their coverage improved quite a lot, speed is decent too.

However, there may be some areas where the network is a little spotty (eg: full bar 4G+ but video keeps loading for a little while). But overall, I feel U Mobile is more stable than Celcom from where I live and usually go, I'm in Klang Valley too.
*
I recently try U Mobile, seems to my suprise their coverage around Klang Valley rather not bad. Some spots is better than Digi and even Maxis. But still can notice certain area the coverage has blind spots but others are full bar. Indoor wise U Mobile needs to improve as i notice usually weaker than DIGI

Good 4G LTE wall penetration for indoor use requires low frequency bands, which are only available for TM Unifi Mobile(= 850MHz = Band 5) and Maxis(= 900MHz = Band 8). The other celcos have only 4G LTE high freq bands of 1800MHz to 2600MHz.

Only when U Mobile converts its 3G/HSPA+(= 900MHz = Band 8) cell towers to 4G LTE, would indoor signal reception improves. .......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U_Mobile

.
*
that means only Unifi and Maxis has lower bands like Band 5 & Band 8? No wonder for maxis indoors sometimes still can get marginal 4G from my phone whereelse my company digi easily switch to 3G but honestly, U Mobile in city areas so far not bad just some areas abit spotty with blind spot.

It's odd that news reports and the U Mobile website seem to have conflicting information about its 2G RAN Sharing, ie is it with Maxis or with Celcom.?  .......

"When U Mobile was first launched in 2007, they had relied on Celcom for 2G domestic roaming for nationwide coverage before they switched to Maxis in 2012.  ...

UPDATE 2: U Mobile will still continue 2G Domestic Roaming with Maxis. This is to provide a wider coverage for basic calls and SMS."

https://soyacincau.com/2017/06/28/u-mobiles...ll-end-in-2018/ - U Mobile’s RAN share agreement with Maxis will end in 2018 - By Alexander Wong 4:37 pm, 28 June 2017

"Will there be any MMS settings for customer to change? As we know we are riding on Celcom 2G and MMS setting would be a separate settings. Do they need to configure it separately? = No. "
https://www.u.com.my/business/support/selfhelp/faqs/73/725

Maybe U Mobile has just changed it's 2G RAN Sharing from Maxis to Celcom.

Can anyone else confirm that U Mobile is RAN sharing 2G from Celcom and not Maxis, ie for basic voice calls and SMS only, ie not for 4G LTE Internet data.?
.

P S - When all the celcos sunset 3G at the end of this year, 2G and 2G RAN Sharing will be the fall-back for basic voice calls and SMS. This fall-back is needed because 4G LTE Internet data signal (for Internet, VoLTE and IMS) has a max range(= max power setting of the cell tower) of only 5km/3 miles(usually it's effective range is 1km only) whereas 2G voice calls/SMS has a max range of 32km/20 miles, eg for calling emergency services like 999 in non-urban areas.

P P S - If the range of 4G cell towers is 1km, they can be spaced 2km apart for full map coverage, especially in rural areas. Each 4G cell tower can serve about 500 users at any one time. In urban areas, 4G cell towers are often spaced about 800m apart or less because of too many users. So, in urban areas, 2G voice calls/SMS are often not needed as a fall-back, eg for calling emergency services like 999.
.

If i not mistaken. My in law house, the coverage for all telco also like crap. U Mobile is the worst where it will fall to 2G which the phone shows CELCOM EDGE. I think is Celcom for 2G. By the way. I got suprised that UMobile network team seems responsive where i complaint that my in law house area in particular area has weak 3G n 4G coverage. Closest to get coverage is 1km apart. Ysdty i got shock my phone show full 4G signal even in the house where last week is poor. 😱 not sure they really solve it or what. I would say good job.

In my case, my aunt house is at Jerantut. Umobile used to get 3G or H+ there 3 years ago. Went to complaint it on Umobile website,6 months after get 4G line there.

Another since im outstation in Lumut, almost all Perak area come with 4G LTE.
*
Wow that is really efficient I would say. I will still monitor first if is okay i will switch to UMobile. So far the coverage is not bad in Klang Valley and most major cities where usually i will be going. Sometimes infact is much better than my Maxis where only 3G. Which package are u signing?

Really good to see Umobile speed in fact can achieve such figures. I tried with my compny digi so far avg 10mbps during peak and max also 50mbps only on mornings. Sometimes even the big 3 telco loose out on signal where umobile full coverage.

Not too shabby for um. Too bad this isn't at my house, only got <4mbps most of the time sad.gif
*
Not bad suprise to see umobile can reach such speed. I did mine prepaid can get this speed at peak hours. As for my main line green telco. Haha. Bad line and poor 4G. Although both are different phones.

Looks good there , I have trying most telcos except umobile , I did call umobile to check they say got coverage but on the ground  not sure worry like last time  very frequently stuck after few month of usage
*
You may use a prepaid simcard. My main line is maxis and been experiencing average or poor coverage even in some spots you get 3g only. So far im testing umobile most areas in KL, PJ performing not bad and way better than maxis. Even the speed is not fast it still able to load. I notice also newer hse area maxis totally KO but umobile good coverage.

given the JENDELA project where 3G will be shutting off in stage. Based on my observation on 4G coverage (other telcos) still has many weak spot area where for 3G the signal is full bar. Although it is slow at least still can send and receive WhatsApp or any other message apps. I guess its gona get worsen...haha...my 2 cents.

Considering MNP my main maxis postpaid to umobile GX68. Anyone port from maxis? If yes, how is your experience? So far few months I bought a prepaid but my area is klang and portdickson and since lockdown not really try at major KL cities. The speed was way better than maxis and coverage on the two location i stay put is better too. However, i am not sure is it okay to port over umobile for long term usage since yet to try at other places. Another point is since wfh i dont really use much data thus considering lower down my phone bill commitment.

GX68 and GX50 the only different is it speed cap?

for area with good umobile speed, do you facing congested at day/night?

consider to sign up either 1 plan above.
*
Yes, the main difference is the speed cap. I recently ported from maxis to GX68 due to poor coverage at my home. So far the speed is good for day & night with my regular Youtube streaming at night no laggy. Quite stable compare to my previous Maxis at my location. If budget is not a major concern, I suggest you go for GX68 since now they have a promo with just RM58 only.

Suggest testing your area for a week before deciding to sign up.

same here. purchase the line based on location needed and find which one faster. last time was transfered to Lumut perak, surprisingly all Perak area cw 4G LTE without error. early this year, transfered to Labuan, yeah 4G LTE all round. even my buddies with Celcom, Maxis struggle with slow connection at the Labuan yard (maybe located at kg area) and borrow my hotspot for MT meeting. another example, last time my wife kg Jerantut Pahang cw H+ line only, now already upgraded to 4G LTE since 4 years ago.

I prefer to get postpaid <rm100 monthly
*
yeap. I also prefer to pay a lower price so the best plan that fits the bill is GX68 & unlimited data. One thing I notice UMobile 4G is strong in cities and commercial areas vs Maxis were occasionally only 1-2 bars. For new housing area, was surprised Umobile covers faster than another telco at my taman too. However, i do notice that Umobile at a certain highways the voice quality is not a good as Maxis where it has choppy sound quality. Or kampung roads sometimes will only have 2G/3G vs Maxis 4G/3G

I've been using U Mobile for 1 year. Last time I feel so disappointed with this telco when I used it on 2019 due to network coverage.

I tried again this year and I'm mpressed with the improvement. The network coverage is stable in my area and when I'm using GPS, I didnt experience any problem.

During the recent flood situation, I'm part of the flood victim, u mobile performed better than digi in my area
*
Same here been using U Mobile since last year April ported over from Maxis for many years. Surprised that the network has improved way better than big 3 telcos. My wife kampung used to have no signal only Maxis and Celcom with 1-2bar 4g. U Mobile is full bar 4G. Same goes to my house taman where only U Mobile provides full 4G. Infact Celcom being widest coverage does not have any signal even 2G 🤦‍♂️. Converted my family members from Maxis to U Mobile so far they are happy many places is better.

During the power outage...
Many places didn't get 4G LTE network...
Even for Digi outside KV (as reported by family member)...
*
on the power outage, my area umobile does not have signal at all where my company digi and my wife maxis has 4G still...i guess some telco has power reserve for their tower. hmm.gif once the power recover about 10mins the 4g came back.

wow 5GB only? That is a turn off given that sometimes you need hotspot when you are at outside for some usage. Previous plan is P99 is better at least
has a large pool of hotspot.

They have set the wrong priorities, for example both U Postpaid 68 and 98 have free 15GB roaming data, they could've used it for the hotspot quota instead so at least people can use more hotspot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but how often does an average Malaysian travel abroad especially in this situation anyways? Even if one travels abroad, they can either afford to roam or just get a tourist SIM card from that country instead.
I wouldn't put my hopes high since DNB is gonna suck the telcos dry once they accept the deal, and then telcos will probably try to bring the burden to us consumers so they still can get profit, U Mobile is already doing this now by giving pathetic amount of hotspot quota.

But hopefully still, some competition will remain so consumers can have more reasonable choices.
*
That is what I caught by surprise. I been using Umobile since last year on the GX68 package with hotspot 10gb (promo). During last year, many of the
workforce still practices work from home and I still can rely on my home broadband. Right now they had downsized to 5GB and if I am constantly at outside or sometimes need a quick connection the hotspot 5gb data is not enough [zoom, teams and work stuff] and I need to top up 3GB [few times] which end up pays almost the same as other telco price. Thus, I may be porting back to other telco at least without any worry on the hotspot consumption.

Just to share latest mobile data network update i been using. Notice that in terms of 4G speed between umobile, maxis, digi during high traffic area. Umobile response is much better in terms of speed especially when surfing in safari, facebook and opening an app that requires data. Eg: opening a safari to search in google.

Also i tested in terms of speed test. UMobile is easier to achieve speed 80-100mbps even on high traffic area during jam or even commercial makan makan place.

I would rank speed and response on 4G full bar same phone model. IPhone 12
Fastest to slowest: UMobile > Maxis > DiGi (all postpaid wid no speed cap)

Good job Umobile but of course coverage wise can be further improve although certain area Umobile is better den the big two telcos.

I have been using umobile for at least 6 - 8 years. so far i don't have any major complain on the line. even at rural areas. initial stage there was blind spot along KL-johor highway but now its all good. i do have complain celcom and digi though. I think so far umobile is offering the best value. don't like their refund process though. take the ages even though it was their mistake.

also just change plan from P99 to postpaid 98...with less post hotspot..damn
*
Wow 6-8 years but i do agree now they did improve alot. While i am not sure about other users as there are alot still complain about Umobile in FB comments for me my experience is quite good (minus certain spot is weak) especially at high traffic area or weekends at malls around KL & PJ, the connectivity still loads faster than maxis & digi. Slowest is digi.

I am now on maxis contract ended 5 months ago, been with them 13 + years
*
I was with Maxis and switch to Umobile previous plan GX68. In terms of speed, the response is better than Maxis especially on
peak areas/hours but coverage wise on most city or central area, no issues unless in rural areas you will see a weak side vs Maxis.

Yes...
Compared with other big Telco...

UM seems better now...
That one I cannot denied....
Previously it's suck to the maximum...

If u read my previous post pages back...
I even got argue with some fellow.... And gotten suspension too & added warning....
*
I am not sure if is the sunset of 3G causes more congestion on the 4G tower as the so far UM been pretty good in terms of data loading
at high traffic area like KLCC, BB and PJ, peak hours or perhaps like others say lesser subscribers. In fact, my wife kampung has full 4G UM signal
vs the big 3 only has 2G given that last time still have 3G.
