Yeah, better stay put while you still can since they're not doing auto-switching this time like they did with the P38 plan.

They themselves also know it's shitty so they had to hide it deep in the FAQ. icon_idea.gif

Yep.
Agreed, the hotspot quota is seriously a joke, older plans like GX68, P99 etc. had at least 30-50GB hotspot quota iirc.

When 5G launches, I wouldn't be surprised if they say only newer plans can use 5G to push those using older plans to upgrade.

they should know their capability b4 throwing in the package, ie big hotspot. inb4 give a more expansive 5G package but don't anticipate bigger hotspot allocation

They have set the wrong priorities, for example both U Postpaid 68 and 98 have free 15GB roaming data, they could've used it for the hotspot quota instead so at least people can use more hotspot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but how often does an average Malaysian travel abroad especially in this situation anyways? Even if one travels abroad, they can either afford to roam or just get a tourist SIM card from that country instead.

I wouldn't put my hopes high since DNB is gonna suck the telcos dry once they accept the deal, and then telcos will probably try to bring the burden to us consumers so they still can get profit, U Mobile is already doing this now by giving pathetic amount of hotspot quota.

But hopefully still, some competition will remain so consumers can have more reasonable choices.

related to DNB, from news I read somewhere, if the telco can't accept the proposed package, it will open our market to abroad players to join here. more rival = better offer to the user

That is what I caught by surprise. I been using Umobile since last year on the GX68 package with hotspot 10gb (promo). During last year, many of the
workforce still practices work from home and I still can rely on my home broadband. Right now they had downsized to 5GB and if I am constantly at outside or sometimes need a quick connection the hotspot 5gb data is not enough [zoom, teams and work stuff] and I need to top up 3GB [few times] which end up pays almost the same as other telco price. Thus, I may be porting back to other telco at least without any worry on the hotspot consumption.

Yeah the roaming is useful for some only.

I’m going to the UK next month to do masters and it will be great for me, especially the free non Wi-Fi calling incoming roaming calls.

I normally travel to France and Italy by rail and now even UK networks need to pay for European roaming after brexit. For me I can just switch to umobile and use this free roaming.

Real steal for 68

.
U Postpaid 68 > GX68 , in terms of, no limit on video-streaming, eg can stream TV shows at 4k/2160p or 8k via phone mirroring to large 60" TV or via the Vention hub or via other methods, ... and can access 5G in KL city areas.

In a few months' or a years' time, 5G should be available in the rest of Klang Valley and the other cities.
.

P S - Supposedly, video-streaming on GX68 is limited to Standard Definition or 480p but has been relaxed to UHD/1080p since June 2021 due to stiff competition from other celcos, eg HUP35/45 from Maxis, CUP35/45 from Celcom, etc.
(Edit) ... U-Mobile may soon revert GX68 back to the SD/480p limit.

Too bad the hotspot quota is too small for this day and age.

Afaik, most casual phone-centric users do not need hotspot data, ie those who also use computers need hotspot data.

OTOH, the 100GB data cap on the new U-PP68 mobile plan is quite a turn-off, ie only 3.33GB per day = some users will prefer U-PP98 for it's much higher 1,000GB data cap = 33.33GB per day. A 1-hr 4k/2160p video consumes about 7GB of data = 4.5 hrs per day.
.

Afaik, celcos seem to be profit-gouging mobile users by imposing data caps bc they pay TM HSBB Fiber for their backhaul connections to the Internet at the rate of about RM90 per 30Mbps = RM10 per 3Mbps, not RM per GB of data.
....... Celcos should limit the number of users according to the capacity of the 4G cell towers, ie about 500 active users at the same time per cell tower.. Including non-active users, a celco should limit itself to sell to only about 750 users per cell tower and give every paying customer unlimited data, including unlimited hotspot data, like TM Unifi and TM Mobile. Instead, the celcos impose data caps or "FUP" so that they can sell more mobile plans to more users, eg 2,000 users per cell tower, esp in urban areas.

Also, each 4G cell tower usually has a capacity of 1,200Mbps (400Mbps per 20MHz)(= 3X20MHz or 3 times 10X10MHz) to be shared by the 500 active users at the same time = average 2.4Mbps per user.

In comparison, each TM Unifi Fiber cable has a capacity of 10,000Mbps or 10Gbps to be shared by about 40 active home-users (residing in link-houses) at the same time (= average 250Mbps per user) and every paying customer enjoys unlimited data, including unlimited "hotspot" or Wifi data.

That may be why DIGI could make a profit of RM304 million for Q4 2021 while TM made a profit of only RM80 million for Q4 2021.

I wouldn't mind if there will be more players, but I feel what they said is more like a way to threaten the telcos to accept the deal. It's just too unrealistic for a new company to set up a telco business here from scratch, even if it really happens, imagine how do they start with the network coverage? 5G coverage has not even reached half of the population yet and would take years to reach the masses, and it's already too late to start with 4G too.

Sorry I thought you ask why is GX38 is better than U35. My bad
If blue telco is good for you, then you may opt for Yoodo 6Mbps plan instead
The only way you can get GX38 is to get the older sim cards from those special/VIP/VVIP number sellers
*
Confirm cannot get GX38 plan anymore? sad.gif
I can still see this plan in U-mobile webpage

I bought a new sim card (the old version that can sub gx38) and it's rusty. Is it safe to use?

Where did u purchase the sim bro?
How to know the simcard is the old version that can sub GX38? Without the 5G wording?

You can but need to purchase from those VVIP number sellers

Their sim is still the non 5g-ready one plan

Nowadays, most physical shops sell the 5g ready plans

As long as the prepaid plan is 5g ready plan, no GX38 for you

Credit card installment 0% better

Or just pay for the phone in full cash

Trust me you will regret now if you change to U98

P99 FUP is relaxed compared to the newer plans

u see competition is great for customers. now both Maxis and Unifi have tight games to attract customers to join their fiber. I got 6 months of free bill rm129 for 100mbps with wifi6 router by maxis, while just now, unifi counter back with rm129 300mbps 6 months free bill plus wifi6 router as well. currently on 30mbps under unifi.

2 years ago, unifi give me 43" LED TV for joining them from maxis 30mbps.

True, but I wish they would focus more on increasing speeds/lowering prices instead of rewarding users for just jumping between the same few isps every 2 years.
