actually these 2 items aren't a must. u can just use a generic thermal paste and nail polish as the cleaner.

djinn, is it compulsory to use 1 washer at front and at the back of the screws . i read that need 3 washers at the back and 2 washers at the front . is the heatsink need to meet contact with the chip or else .

Damn it, I tried to do the x-clamp replacement by myself.... but unluckily one of the nut in the GPU heatsink is stucked............. Damn it, I almost got it fixed.....

any idea how to get the stucked screw on the GPU heatsink? I think my last choice will be........ sending it to some workshop who can drill the screw hole.......... the hexagon part on the screw is already because rounded..... Damn it.... I got 7/8 off from the heatsink and only this stupid screw keep sticking on the heatsink... I guess it sure love the heatsink and dont wanna get away from the heatsink. My hand is damn sakit.... I was working on it whole day while watching jap drama... LOL

I did skip a few parts tho.. the GPU is still on the stock X-clamp, but i've changed the xclamp for the cpu, i know.. i know.. it's the gpu.. but hey.. at least my box is up and running now after wiping off and re-applying the thermal paste for both.. i couldn't find any M5 10mm screws.. all i got here is an M5 25mm M5 fits perfectly onto the stock heatsinks hence i do not need a nut for the other end..

i got 3 cuts on my fingers while opening the damn bloody white cover.. but it's all worth it..

Wanna share with u all. Now got new method for fixing 3 rod of death. Just remove the x-clamp and fix it with 2stage washer and walla its working now.. no need to bend the mobo now ... hehehe

remove x clamp - but no need to tighten the black screw( it adjustable), because i used special stage washer on it.

u need 2 washer for each screw below the mobo. It will ngam ngam with the mobo and zinc plate. No need to tighten the black screw, if not it will bend ur mobo.

why do u need to do the o/heating trick to melt the gpu/cpu solder connection?
is it just because to ensure the thermal paste thermally in contact with the heatsinks?

i just did mine 2days ago, only managed to worked for 10+minutes and then freeze and ROD back..
after putting a big fan in front of naked mobo then only worked for 30minutes and oso the same ROD, now dont hv time to fiddle with it becoz of exams.

i did it again last 3 day, changed the screws to white plastic type,but this time only worked for an hour half..but when i touch the heatsink,damn hot..even with fan blowing right at it.. but i noticed that the red color starts to fade before freeze and Rrod

fun or not fixing no screen 360?   last time was fixing with both hand. use ur hand flex the mobo not too hard or else u over flex the XSB chip

Off Topic - If you guys knew what you had to endure these problems, do you think you regretted buying XBOX360 back then? I'm just curious, if you have the chance to go back, would you choose PS3 instead?

XBOX360 is a fine machine to me, but to invest so much in a machine that is easily prone to 3ROD....haizz, really makes you wanna think twice.

Isnt a newer version of 360 comin out soon 2 totally eliminate the 3rod thingy?

vahalla is combine CPU and GPU. It maybe better and able to solve the heat OR maybe 3rod even more faster since 2x the 3rod chance....MUHAHAHA.......

The new falcon defect rate so far is sub 10%. It sucks that maybe MS wants to cut taxes by NOT using lead solder. With lead solder I think the most of the rrod prob can be solved.
