There is some problem with Malaysia international link with UK i think, can't surf lowyat.net (only can load up half of the page), thestar.com.my etc etc until today. rclxub.gif

Anyway, thread is pinned as promise once the guide is complete. Good job! thumbup.gif

laugh.gif this works .. Really.

by leaving the mobo running all day long the motherboard will try to "flex" back

so once you turn off.. it might work smile.gif

some work on my units... but not all la. laugh.gif

actually these 2 items aren't a must. u can just use a generic thermal paste and nail polish as the cleaner.

nail polish takes forever!~~~~ laugh.gif

djinn, is it compulsory to use 1 washer at front and at the back of the screws . i read that need 3 washers at the back and 2 washers at the front . is the heatsink need to meet contact with the chip or else .
*
that fix you need a M4x20mm screws to do . 10mm cannot use. cause tak cukup..

any idea how to get the stucked screw on the GPU heatsink? I think my last choice will be........ sending it to some workshop who can drill the screw hole.......... the hexagon part on the screw is already because rounded..... Damn it.... I got 7/8 off from the heatsink and only this stupid screw keep sticking on the heatsink... I guess it sure love the heatsink and dont wanna get away from the heatsink. My hand is damn sakit.... I was working on it whole day while watching jap drama... LOL
*
use plier. that should do the trick

I like to thank Gurdian to make this guide as i just successfully revived my 3RODed box rclxms.gif

I did skip a few parts tho.. the GPU is still on the stock X-clamp, but i've changed the xclamp for the cpu, i know.. i know.. it's the gpu.. but hey.. at least my box is up and running now after wiping off and re-applying the thermal paste for both.. i couldn't find any M5 10mm screws.. all i got here is an M5 25mm sweat.gif M5 fits perfectly onto the stock heatsinks hence i do not need a nut for the other end..

i got 3 cuts on my fingers while opening the damn bloody white cover.. but it's all worth it.. nod.gif

Wanna share with u all. Now got new method for fixing 3 rod of death. Just remove the x-clamp and fix it with 2stage washer and walla its working now.. no need to bend the mobo now ... hehehe
*
haha. nice nice..

but you know.. is almost as same as the x clamp la.

you remove the clamps and tighten the "black screw" right ?

which also known as bending the mobo as well smile.gif

u need 2 washer for each screw below the mobo. It will ngam ngam with the mobo and zinc plate. No need to tighten the black screw, if not it will bend ur mobo.
*
hm.. looks like those "mushroom" type of nylon washer~... and kinda familiar... where did I See ah... hmm.gif

i kinda konfuse here,as im not an electronic stuff guy.
why do u need to do the o/heating trick to melt the gpu/cpu solder connection?
is it just because to ensure the thermal paste thermally in contact with the heatsinks? wink.gif
*
the GPU got "cold joints" so you need the trick to "melt it" to make it contact to the motherboard.

but if the joints cacat, no matter how many times you "overcook" you still won't be able to revive it.

i'm doing my overcook tis nite..hope that it'll comes alive with 5 mins o/cook.. icon_question.gif
can i exchange motherboards only? hmm.gif will it be playable?
*
you can exchange the mobo (if the technician have spare) and as well as the technician must now "the key" (the drive firmware) and match it back on your mobo.

Off Topic - If you guys knew what you had to endure these problems, do you think you regretted buying XBOX360 back then? I'm just curious, if you have the chance to go back, would you choose PS3 instead?

XBOX360 is a fine machine to me, but to invest so much in a machine that is easily prone to 3ROD....haizz, really makes you wanna think twice.
*
is all on your own possession, for me I choose xbox 360 cause I got the games I want too.

yes, I knew the 3 ROD problem but what to do, all the games is only for the xbox 360.

ps3 is a good buy ! the cheapest Blu-Ray Player! really.. tempting brows.gif

"off topic"

Isnt a newer version of 360 comin out soon 2 totally eliminate the 3rod thingy?
*
there is no facts that the 3 ROD is eliminated.

reason Microsoft had release the Falcon around November. But in the end one of our forumer (samurai20) had suffered the 3 ROD (which he just bought it just reasonly)

in fact I'm guess even the jasper or the latest vahalla will still be prone of the 3 ROD (unless they redesign the whole motherboard)

vahalla is combine CPU and GPU. It maybe better and able to solve the heat OR maybe 3rod even more faster since 2x the 3rod chance....MUHAHAHA....... brows.gif
*
let see hows the race going to go.

can't wait to see the jasper and vahalla.

but really don't get it why they would think CPU and GPU combine is a good recommendation ?

maybe the mobo and parts (resistor) can stand more heat for vahalla ?

The new falcon defect rate so far is sub 10%. It sucks that maybe MS wants to cut taxes by NOT using lead solder. With lead solder I think the most of the rrod prob can be solved.
*
not really 10 percent lo. actual figure is higher then that, they just didn't announce it correctly only.

indeed their failure rate is much lesser then the Xenon motherboard.

as for the lead solder is not really totally the soldering problem. it could be something else.

soldering crack consider common problem but that is not prone for the major problem for the 3 RROD.
