There's an interesting development for my 3rod-ed xbox, it went dead 5 weeks ago. I recently decided to open the whole thing up and fix it. Xclamp fix had been done btw and it lasted for more than a year.

So I cleaned up everything and wanted to do a reflow of the GPU. But b4 that I decided to try my luck and reapply the thermal paste then turn it on see if it runs. First few attempts resulted in a black screen or the startup screen with artifacts(no 3 red lights though).
Then I try it again last nite and it came back ALIVE! Play tested for a few hours without problems! Turn it on again this morning and its still good!

Now to see how long it will last b4 it fails again.

my xbox revived from 3RROD each time just after i knocked down the power supply box...haha

Mine just 3ROD yesterday night...sigh...Play for 2 hrs then the thing just blank out and shows 3ROD. But if press the power button it works again..sigh...

ive done the fix but still no luck...can anyone please help me fix it? ill pay for fixing fees and parts....

hi guys , i want ask some crazy questions . if i clean up thermal paste and let GPU heatsink off , will i able to play ? i am so tired about 3RROD .... waste a lot money on fixing already .... and sorry for my crazy questions .

You will fry the chip within minutes, permanently.

You'd better change your console to a Jasper rather than keep repairing an engineering flawed console.

mine just 3rrod and i guess maybe wait for slim (maybe during E3) or Natal combo ...

anyone can tell me where i can buy 10mm Screw (M5) and Nylon washer (M6) in penang ? i go to 5 hypermarket also cant find it T_T .

Anyone over here have tried the heat gun/ oven baking method? I've done the X-clamp fix but the Xbawks still has the 3LOD.

Error code shown is 0021, so the chips needs extreme heat. But the problem is that nobody I know owns a heat gun and it's freaking expensive just to use it for a small repair.

i've tried the xclamp method, it still did not work. should i repeat the same method again to see if it has a chance to work, or can i try other methods?

Try this method. It worked for me, but lasted only 3 days of use Probably I didn't do it properly

- Turn on your Xbox console and wait for the 3LOD
- Hold the SYNC button, located beside the Memory Card Slot B and don't let go until instructed
- Press the eject button once. The number of lights will show*
- Wait for 3 seconds and press the eject button again. The number of lights will show*
- Wait for another 3 seconds and press the eject button. The number of lights will show*
- Wait for an additional 3 seconds and press the eject button. The number of lights will show*
- Wait for the last 3 seconds and press the eject button. The 3LOD will re-appear
- You can let go of the SYNC button and switch off the console

*Interpretation of the blinking lights
1 light - 1
2 lights - 2
3 lights - 3
4 lights - 0

So my Xbox had the error code 0021(which meant 4,4,2,1) that generally stated either wrongly flashed drive or cold solder joints on the Southbridge
