The fact that the F30 and the 20D are aimed at different market shows in this comparison Consumer-oriented cameras, like the F30, generally produce images with greater consumer appeal than SLR cameras. This means more saturated colors and sharper images. Such images make excellent prints without any image processing up to common print sizes. At this, the Fuji Finepix F30 seems to excel.

i dont own a dslr so i dont know how well dslr perform in high iso, but from these tests, there is no doubt that fuji f30 beats canon 20D in low iso and high iso, the fuji image is sharper, if canon 20D is better its just slightly better.

same as nikon D2X, the IQ is not really better than Fuji.

Am totally in agreement with goldfries on the use of a SLR vs that of a compact.

There are lots that can be done with a SLR that a compact can't, high noise handling capability not-withstanding.

I am also in agreement with the findings from the link, having done some experimenting with my f31 and 350D. Of course, my parameters used were not so meticulously calibrated, but even, as a amateur, I can tell the diff. Was posted here earlier

One thing about the f31, the night mode is a total wash-out

you won't be asking this question if you even know how a DSLR is different from a compact.

no matter how good is the F31fd, it's still limited in it's capability. your lens is just as it is. try having a look at the galleries where DSLR is used, some types of shots can't achieve them with F31fd or compacts.

again this depends on the user la. if your intended shots are like P&S style, then no point getting DSLR. as i mentioned some where, it's pointless to spend RM 2k - 3k on DSLR when your style of shooting can be handled by RM 1k P&S camera.

the Bell Tower @ Xian pic, i perfer the F31 i think the color is closer to the real color (yellow), the canon color is orange, may be u mess up the WB, overall fuji is unbeatable consider the price and size.

if i'm not mistaken the f31 is newer than the 20d(newer tech more improvements) the f31 has half the mp of a d2xs, more mp, more noise.

the rose shots plus the flowers thread? mostly macro shots, they look quite normal to me, normal in the sense that pns should do it, may be i am not familiar with manual controls in dslr. sorry.

problem is...for me...the dslr didnt give me safetyness..as when hang the strap ard neck and carry it on the street...keep on feel like some goin to rompak me...but with DC..actually feel better..as when dun want take photo that time can keep in the pocket ..

yeah. which is why i'm still eye on compacts. hang strap and neck is one thing, then the bag with other lens leh.

the good thing is that people don't really bother about price of lens, people normally prefer to steal phones and watches. haha. but still it's scary to think you might come by "smarter" criminals.
