There are a few ways to get into Japan depending on what your long term goal is. In general Japanese language proficiency equivalent to N2 and above is more than enough to survive there, but there are other more relevant / pressing things one needs to take care of first, primarily employment / source of living income. A lot of gaijin enter via work visa. Some through marriage. Also there are those that enter as students and manage to find employment there upon graduation.
