Yay I can finally stop lurking this thread and make an account to ask for a recommendation!

Budget: I don't have a budget, I'm planning to save up. (Just wanna know how low I can go)
Use case: LaTeX, light programming, Microsoft office, web browsing
Battery life: double digits
dGPU: don't want
Storage: NVMe SSD 64GB (I have 1TB of cloud storage anyway)
Other: Touchscreen, super thin bezels
CPU: idc as long as cheap. (I can accept AMD or Intel. Heard there are issues with AMD in laptops but it's okay IDC)
RAM: Preferably 8 GB cause it's cheap and enough.

I first plan to buy the Chuwi LapBook Pro when it comes out next month. Then planning to save up for a better laptop end of year perhaps to handle CAD for my upcoming semester next year.
I've done some research the past week, this'll be my first time buying a laptop so I wanna do it right.

Is there a cheapo laptop that fits the criteria?
I was thinking Surface Laptop 2 but maybe it's overkill and more expensive than it needs to be.

1. You should give a range in budget to make things easier
2. What do you mean by double digits?

I'll suggest you to get a used/refurb laptop or tablet if you want to save up longer for a CAD laptop. If you're not urgent in using a laptop, just buy nothing and save up for a new, better laptop
*
1. <4k I guess.
2. Like 10+ hours

Pretty urgent unfortunately, but I don't have the funds right now for anything above 1.7k hence the Chuwi.

I'd rather CAD on something faster that cost more than something slow that costs less. Hence willing to save up a lot for a decent laptop.

I might go used if I can replace the battery, but probably can't seeing as I also want a very thin laptop (forgot to specify in my 1st post).

Just get a cheap Chuwi (or other budget options like Lenovo Miix 320-10ICR, Avita Liber)

Max weight you prefer? (in kg)
*
1.3kg

Are you suggesting a cheap laptop for CAD? Or for the urgent laptop?

hey guys, can suggest me a good laptop for normal usage..
budget RM1.7k with windows..
i know it was too much to ask but this is for my mom. thanks guys.

Depends on what normal usage is.

My budget is similar to yours and I'm waiting for the Chuwi Lapbook Pro to be released some time soon.
I was also thinking of the Teclast F5 or Teclast F7 Plus (for 8gb ram)
But 4GB is good enough for me (normal usage is just uni stuff)
I'd suggest looking at the Chuwi Lapbook SE too.

People here really like suggesting over the top bang for the buck laptop (that fully utilizes all that budget money) without considering user usage and a cheaper option.
But if you're really looking for over the top bang for the buck then go with what ZM Fong said.

If I don't new access to a 2.5" drive mount easily, what are the options?
*
An accessible M.2 drive is a different story.

Why does so many manufacturers only give consumers 4gb of ram?

Cheap windows licenses with Microsoft?

My friend is looking for a laptop

Just 4 requirements:
* Touchscreen
* 1080 screen
* pretty good size at least 12 inch
* 99th percentile in terms of battery life (relative to the cost of the laptop)

He wants to spend the bare minimum.
He will reluctantly spend 3K but if possible any laptop that fits those 4 criteria is a win already.

Everything else, he doesn't care about.

Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradable RAM? Usage?
*
Both don't matter to him.

For usage, portable work laptop.
I'd rather not say what he does exactly, but whatever it is it doesn't matter what kinda power the laptop packs.

Do you guys know of an online store or local store that sells the shittiest performing laptops with no OS? (Preferably a visually modern looking one) I'm trying to find one for like ~RM600

I just want to install Chromium OS on it.

For reference I want to buy something like this
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/e-era-ul....16389.126133.0
It doesn't state that it has an OS (nor does it state the CPU) but I'm not sure if I can trust the seller.
