Hi there, i am also looking at this option but was quoted almost 3k with 4GB RAM & 128GB SSD upgrade
*
You can buy this model under 2.5k. 4GB RAM+120/128GB SSD upgrades are around RM300

If you don't do much gaming, Ideapad 320s 14 with RAM+SSD upgrades

yup~i am student...haha
I think 1050 is ok....I think play much pc games...
*
I suggest Y530 with 15% student discount (1050TI with 144Hz IPS), however the delivery takes time

Other options:
Illegear Raven - optional 144Hz IPS
Dell G7 - only 1050 GPU and low sRGB IPS display
Commandos Glock 5 (Clevo NB50TK1) - optional 72% NTSC 60Hz, 144Hz or UHD IPS

16GB RAM is recommended for your usage

Sorry should have been clearer -

Budget - Below RM3k
Usage - Mostly Ms Office, surfing, watching movie and if gaming will be only Football Manager.
Display - 15'
Weight - Below 2kg
Battery Life - no preference, anything above 4hours considered good ?

All in all hope to get one that can last maybe 3-4 years

Thanks  notworthy.gif

Same: HP Pavilion 15 cs0033tx with RAM+SSD upgrades

Or Acer Swift 3 15 (old model with soldered RAM) - i5-8250U+iGPU, i5-8250U+MX150 or R5-2500U+RX540 (not recommended)

1. Budget : RM2.5k-3k

2. Usage : Gaming(mainly Dota 2, if the laptop can play newer titles would be nice too) & programming.

3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- The optimal display size I want would be 15" or more, but 14" is fine too.
- Battery life doesn't matter to me.
- Weight doesn't matter.
- Probably any brands besides acer ?

Yes I am, do they have the option to deliver internationally ? Cause I'm currently in UK right now.
*
Then you have to make purchase in UK which has entirely different market (models, prices)

helo all, im looking for a new laptop with specs as follows,

1. Budget : <rm6500
2. Usage  : work and mid-end gaming, gtx1060 (MHW, FFXIV etc)
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- 15.6" with thin bezel (really want a compact size)
- weight preferably under 2.4kg
- dont really bother about 60/144hz screen
- quiet keyboard (i dont need mechanical)
- battery size no matter (plugged most of the time)

been looking at illegear Onyx, Asus Strix II but both have some little here and there issue like Bios thingy etc.

i am not really good at IT stuff so would appreciate a good aftersales service...
*
HP Omen 15-DC0126TX
Asus GL504GM
Illegear Onyx
Lenovo Legion Y530 (81LB001GMJ) - low sRGB IPS

Light weight but don't have thin bezel: MSI GP63

1. Budget : RM 2k max
2. Usage  : Buying laptop for my mom. No need for anything fancy lol. Mostly for surfing. Sometimes Microsoft Office. No gaming. Maybe  for watching movies once in a while.
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
15' monitor
Prefer ASUS was thinking about one of those vivobooks.

Thank you sifus smile.gif
*
Vivobooks are generally mediocre. For your budget, I suggest you to go used if you really need 15 inch

Mind to share other competitor/options besides it?

Say if max budget is 4k..

Commandos Glock 5 (Clevo NB50TK1)
Dell G7 - 1050 only (in this budget), low sRGB IPS

Also I saw that our dell products are about 1.5X more expensive than their US counterparts. Why is that so? Been wanting to get a dell machine but their prices just pisses me off

So are there any good laptops with a GTX 1060 that is cheap with good screen and keyboard at RM 4.5K -5K that I should consider? Or does anyone know if there will be a refresh from Dell and lenovo soon and I should wait?
*
First: Avoid Helios 300 and FX504GM, bad cooling and OKish build quality. Unless you don't mind that

Can consider these:
1. Illegear Raven (TongFang GJ5CN6E) with 1060 and 144Hz IPS. Can choose in house mechanical keyboard which is similar to blue switches. I suggest you to take i5 8300H since 8750H runs hot.
2. Commandos Carbine 5 (Clevo N950TP6). Keyboard is nothing special though. Comes with desktop CPU. I suggest you to take i5 8400.
3. Level51 W15 Lite (Clevo N950TP6) with 120Hz TN. Same explanation with Carbine 5.

Welp, round 2.

Budget: 7k
CPU: i7 or higher (may not be relevant
RAM : 16/32GB
Weight: If possible, below 2kg, but not a high priority, yet.

Uses : Highly aggressive photoshop.
Note: Memory(RAM) is top priority.

Any preference on battery life? Max weight you can accept?

thanks guys, some pm-ed as well. how was lenovo quality over time? aftersales service? they just release their 1060 version of y530 and seems like pretty good competition for others. Asus and msi seems having poor quality from what i read.
*
Quality: Depends on model, not brand
Aftersales service: Onsite is pretty good (takes a few days, unlike Dell), carry in also good. I would say it depends on luck and which service centers since I've heard both good and bad stories

Y530 with 1060 has very good value

Asus and MSI has good and bad models, however their quality has indeed dropped compared to a few years ago (same goes with other brands, though not that significant)

LENOVO Y530, i5 with GTX 1060 6 GB looks promising..,but can it chasis handle the thermal from the gpu and cpu?
*
8300H+1060 - no problem, the GPU still has plenty of cooling room
If 8750H+1060, it might struggle a bit since 8750H runs hot

Welp, round 2.

Budget: 7k
CPU: i7 or higher (may not be relevant
RAM : 16/32GB
Weight: If possible, below 2kg, but this is flexible.
Battery life: 7-8+ hours? (or whatever is reasonable)

Uses : Highly aggressive photoshop.

1. Thinkpad T480s/T480s
WQHD panel
MX150 25W (10W in T480s)
Optional 96Wh battery (T480)

2. Thinkpad T580
UHD panel
MX150 25W
Optional 105Wh battery

3. ThinkPad X1 Extreme
8300H+1050TI MQ, 8GB, 256GB
Some throttling due to thin chassis (8300H should be fine)

4. Dell XPS 15 9570
8300H+1050, 8GB, 256GB, 100% sRGB 400nits FHD IPS display, 97Wh battery
Cooling and VRM throttling issues, some QC issues

FYI, i5 and i7 ULV don't have much performance difference unless single core performance and the extra 2-3MB L3 cache are very important to you. Note that I didn't include options with soldered RAM ONLY, even they come with 16GB RAM.

@myway1985, any Dell Latitudes/Precisions with big battery and good quality display to recommend?
