New Sempron for Socket S1 embedded and SBC systems

Expect the Sempron 2100+ to make its way into embedded and SBCs. AAEON and Arbor offer boards compatible with the new processor.

9 watt for CPU...2 watt for GPU..1 watt for ram ..2 watt for others.
total no more than 20 watt..

perhaps near the future a 9 v battery can powered a pc jz like a battery powered hp

a 9v batt will not power up a pc cause it just can't supply 20W. However multiple cell of 1.5v like those in RC cars will.

why must Intel? If amd intro new low power proc so intel must intro new low pwer as well?

even still don't know purpose of this proc, did it for normal desktop @ notebook?

asking amd what the will do when new intel 45nm out... lesser power

this is really something interest me. the geode platform is based on the K7 arch, now with this sempron upgrade for AMD geode, we get a k8 arch for geode. thumbup.gif wow, i may wanna consider getting one for BT and htpc. thumbup.gif

Intel has something even more sophisticated, called Silverthorne (check tomshardware website on IDF). It can go as low as 0.8W - 2.0W when full load - clock speed dependent.

I had played around with these system, running Windows Vista Basic without heatsink and fan.

I think the reason why AMD make this processor is to compete with the Intel Core Solo ultra low volt processors, although the Core Solo only uses about 5.5 watt max.

No idea, but when i touch the bare silicon with my finger, it is slighter more than warm. I guess it should be around 45C with average 60% CPU load (1W Silverthorne).

The 2W part does require a small cheapskate heatsink though (like oldern S3 graphic card), if u want it to operate at good temperature.

pocessor should be for simple items...pda, simple electronics.etc. for mainstream pc need faster specs so still fight on speed. maybe simple robotics to replace plcs?? I think...

dat proc for lappie or desktop??? 9W wor... really amazing... or maybe for pda... hahaha... it'll serve good as torrent machine for some... AMD return power to fight against intel with super low power consumption proc...?

9 watts is great but hmm not sure whether psu companies will be happy about this:P its a big business out there:Pgood for us but bad for the ppl who are in the business

Both AMD and Intel realized that most user are not really needing more power than the current line of processor speed , thats why they venture into something else that more and more people want , power saving (which mostly used for torrenting/ multimedia / HT purposes) wink.gif

With this kind of setup, we only need 100w PSU tongue.gif

The 9W lineup is for high performance embedded PC system. The PDA will be using Geode series which is well below 1.0W.

These high performance embedded PC can be found in 7-eleven. If you observed carefully, there is an LCD screen displaying some advertisements. They definitely would not want a high power consumption PC to increase their operation cost. Normaly they'll just opt for a sub 50W (max load) computer system, load up with Windows CE and run their system with 1 -> 2GB of flash memory.
