New Sempron for Socket S1 embedded and SBC systems

QUOTE
AMD today announced the latest addition to the embedded product lineup, the Sempron 2100+ processor. The new Sempron 2100+ has a thermal design power rating of nine watts[cool.gif. With the low TDP rating, the Sempron 2100+ is ideal for fan-less embedded systems.

AMD packages the Sempron 2100+ in a Socket S1 package. The Sempron 2100+ is compatible with the AMD M690T chipset. The new Sempron 2100+ is the first embedded targeted processor from AMD to feature AMD64 technology.

"By expanding our product portfolio with this new, very low power version of the highly successful AMD Sempron processor and extending the temperature support in our Geode line, AMD is delivering on our promise of customer-centric innovation for a range of embedded markets," Embedded Computing Solutions Division Vice President Greg White said. "You will continue to see AMD offer our embedded customers the products and tools they need to get high performance, very low power products to market quickly."

Expect the Sempron 2100+ to make its way into embedded and SBCs. AAEON and Arbor offer boards compatible with the new processor.

That's really something shocking.gif

yes ler..
9 watt for CPU...2 watt for GPU..1 watt for ram ..2 watt for others.
total no more than 20 watt..

perhaps near the future a 9 v battery can powered a pc jz like a battery powered hp

a 9v batt will not power up a pc cause it just can't supply 20W. However multiple cell of 1.5v like those in RC cars will.

Lol! Even if it is possible, I wouldn't even think about it unless I put the phone anywhere except my pants pocket. Don't want it to cook something valuable...... doh.gif

Back to topic, this proc would be ideal for low-cost low-consumption laptops?

why must Intel? If amd intro new low power proc so intel must intro new low pwer as well?

even still don't know purpose of this proc, did it for normal desktop @ notebook?

asking amd what the will do when new intel 45nm out... lesser power

Intel has something even more sophisticated, called Silverthorne (check tomshardware website on IDF). It can go as low as 0.8W - 2.0W when full load - clock speed dependent.

I had played around with these system, running Windows Vista Basic without heatsink and fan.

I think the reason why AMD make this processor is to compete with the Intel Core Solo ultra low volt processors, although the Core Solo only uses about 5.5 watt max.

No idea, but when i touch the bare silicon with my finger, it is slighter more than warm. I guess it should be around 45C with average 60% CPU load (1W Silverthorne).

The 2W part does require a small cheapskate heatsink though (like oldern S3 graphic card), if u want it to operate at good temperature.
