Hi guys, would like to check is ddr4 8gb ram really not enough use anymore? recently i just help my friend to build a pc as below:

core: i7-8700
mobo: gigabyte H370
HDD: 2tb (dint go for ssd cause don see the point besides fast)
Ram: DDR4-2400 8gb
OS: win 10 pro

encounter a few times by opening roughly 10> tab chrome (less than 20) it start shows a "no response" for few sec then only back to normal. there was once play dota, it just hang in the loading screen n need force restart. i got with my lausy working acer laptop with i5 & 8gb ram usually i open more than 10 tab of chrome but hardly will show any "no response".

Any sifu can assist my friend issue? notworthy.gif

8gb should be enough ram.
I can think of 2 possibilities:

1. Those websites tht you open have tonnes of advertisement or adware, causing many java applet/script to run. It hogs memory and can hit your storage hard.

2. The 2TB harddisk you have is running on 5400rpm type. So it is definitely not as responsive as the 7200rpm version.

Perhaps wat u can do is install adblock plus or some other ad block plugin to see any improvement.

There is one more issue. Stock cooler for i7-8700 is shit.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-...eview,5638.html

Double check with HWmonitor. You might wanna upgrade the cooler.

Also, WD Blue 2TB onwards is 5400rpm. The performance is crap.

Sorry i dint meant to be rude, but does it really correlated? cause i also got a core i7 4700 using the standard cooler, i don face much of the issue. cause we dint overclock it or push it to max, thats why dint get those exp cooler for the core.

Oh yes, the CPU will throttle itself when overheat. Use HWMonitor to check the temperature when you stress test.

The stock cooler is not meant for anything more than the medium i5 without OC. The i7-8700 is a hot chip indeed. Spend the extra RM150-200 for peace of mind. Also consider topping up to 16GB RAM. You didnt mention GPU, so I guess some RAM used for graphics memory?

the gpu is 1080ti la lol does it drain the ram usage? cause i based on many site research they said 8gb ram is enough 16gb is also abit overkill if not editing purposes. any thought? smile.gif

I would suggest 16GB RAM to pair with that rig for gaming. Then again, please check the temps as that would be a major problem.

8GB will obselete. Some games today already 8GB min, 16GB recommended.

change HDD to SSD...even though u dont see the point...just open up resource monitor and trace each service usage/activity... but i believe HDD or the installation OS is your root cause...

I played Diablo III with 8gb ram before and it's stutter a lot. Change to 16 and smoothly played

if you can get an i7 and 1080ti lets not cheap out on other part
get a 3rd party < RM200 cooler and SSD (pretty cheap now but DRAMless) probably the whole upgrade cost around RM300 or u can always opt for 2nd hand market

as for the ram for the time being if costing is the issues u can keep the 8GB till u really need it.
Based on how u build it i guess is a 8GB 2400 mhz value ram? is going quite cheap now compare to last time ddr4 price, should consider
