Can Tenda AC18 handle Time 500 Mbps well? Any reviews of this router?
*
I just got the AC18 from Shopee a few days back. After discounts and all abt RM255.
Setup was a breeze, less than 10 mins I'm up and running. Reboot duration is very short. About 1 min.

2.4GHz signal is STRONG. I have 100mbps line and I can easily get 50mbps on it anywhere in double storey house. Even in toilet where I'm surrounded by more than 4 walls
5GHz signal is not as strong as 2.4GHz but now it is easier for me to get 100mbps consistently around the house. The coverage area is also much bigger than my previous TPLink AC1200.

Unifi TV works on LAN port 4 with no lag.

So far it has been good, no freezing yet. Everything is snappy. Didn't want to pay upwards of RM500 for TPLink or Asus ones.

Anyone tested OpenVPN connection speed on Asus RT-AC86u? I'm thinking of getting it to replace my TPLink AX20 because I'm on ExpressVPN and would like to setup the VPN at the router instead of each device.

AX20 does not have VPN client function at all which I'm thinking of selling my 2wk old unit.

I've tried using rasp pi as VPN openVPN gateway but the throughput is way too low. Not useable but it works.

Assuming ExpressVPN hasn't used a stronger encryption for their OpenVPN tunnel, 100Mbps shouldn't be an issue. Remember to use the ASUSWRT-Merlin firmware as the VPN support is better.

This is provided that no throttling from ISP side as well.

Yeah, expressVPN uses 256bit encryption for their OpenVPN tunnel, i was hoping to get somewhere near 100mbps as my unifi is also 100mbps only. Yes, i read Merlin has h/w acceleration while Asus WRT doesn't.

Not too sure if Unifi throttles OpenVPN tunneling but if I use the expressVPN app on phone / tablet / PC I only loose abt 5% speed.

Thanks.
