Hi Guys,

Looking to buy a new router to cover new condo (around 1800sqft).
Currently looking at Asus RT-AC1300UHP with quad core processor.
The placement of the router would be on the TV console which is in front of the house and the bedroom location (especially master bedroom) is located at the end of the house.
Not sure if this is the best router to cover this.

Appreciate any suggestion or advice on the setup or different router.

Hi Guys, Got some questions on access point seek for your kind advise.

Current set up:
Ground Floor Asus AC86U cable all the way up to 2nd floor connect to Dlink 842 Unifi router (work as access point). On 1st floor got a Asus NT12HP as repeater.
Question:
Can i connect Ground Floor Asus AC86U cable to 1st floor Asus NT12HP (access point) and from 1st floor Asus NT12HP cable up to 2nd floor Dlink 842 as another access point?

Can access point router LAN to another access point router?
*
Possible, but you have to ensure that DHCP is not enabled for N12HP and DIR-842. I have to say that having the N12HP as an access point is not that optimal as it does but support 5GHz AC, unlike the other two routers.

Probably not. You need to provide more info as AVFAN has said.

u did not state dimensions... i assume it is squarish, max diagonal 50ft.

single floor, high rise, max 50ft, 100mbps... asus rt1300uhp should be able to do what u want.

the only thing u shud check is how many devices u have that can work on 5ghz.

with 5ghz, u will get full 100mbps wifi or just below.

for laptops and pc's, u can buy ac adaptor to run on 5ghz.

however, if a device can only run on 2.4ghz, expect to get 20-50 only.

and 2.4ghz can be congested in highrise; u may need to play around to find the best channel.

this router is good for wifi up to 300mbps so u can upgrade speed in future.

beyond that, good for ethernet only, wifi will not improve; u need to buy costly router, those that look like spiders with 8 legs. biggrin.gif

i am using this router, which has better wifi than tplink ac1200 and dlink 842.

Tried to find the dimension but didn't manage to get it, ya it is squarish nod.gif
On my current router and devices, all can support 5ghz but only if its really close to the router, if in the room than connect to 2.4ghz.
Thanks for the info thumbsup.gif

You are currently using the asus rt1300uhp?
Those spider looking routers are out of budget

Use port 1 for NT12HP & DIR-842 & disable DHCP on both.

Also since your NT12HP doesn't support 5GHz AC, set its SSID name different that your NT12HP & DIR-842. Both NT12HP & DIR-842 can use same SSIDs.

using it for 15 months now, from 100mbps to now 800mbps, very satisfied.
compared to tplink 1200 and dlink842 which i have used before, rtac1300uhp is more stable and better wifi coverage.
but like i said, ethernet 800 is fine, wifi max 300.

i get good 5ghz at 50ft same floor, thru 1 staircase, 1 wall, furniture/cabinets.
that's why i think it will be ok for yr case.
surely there are better wifi routers but for 100mbps and yr layout, i think not worth it.

if u do buy the router, make sure u update to this latest firmware:
RT-AC1300UHP_3.0.0.4_380_8457-g43a391a.trx
u can visit asus thread too:

Hi there, in on unifi 300mbps. Was thinking to change my existing asus rtn12hp to tplink (either a6 or a7). As on first thread, a6 is sufficient for 300mbps. Just wondering is the wifi range for a6 and a7 is same ? Using mainly for movie streaming and you tube only. No torrent download. Thank you

I just bought A6 from OOKAS. Originally wanted to get A7 but no budget.

Here is what I understand from OOKAS:
A6 & A7 wifi range is about the same. In some reviews, A6 even able to perform better speed in far distance compare to A7, this might thanks to it's newer Qualcomm QCA9886 chipset, also 5 antennas (4 x external, 1 x internal).

But so far A6 has been serving me quite well, P20 pro can get ~280mbps (need to nearby router, but not side by side la haha).

ASUS Blue Cave AC2600 vs ASUS RT-AC86U AC2900

does ASUS RT-AC86U AC2900 (RM1109) so much better than ASUS Blue Cave AC2600 (RM760) to worth the price increase?

Nope, the RT-AC86U added some gaming features here and there.

IMO, the Blue Cave is an amazing WiFi router. It is just 1 place behind the RT-AC86U even on smallnetbuilder.

Network storage means the USB port speed is slightly slower.

thanks to your reply that make me go back to the website and read the review again

apparently their 1st review on the NAS performance has wrong info because they used the wrong configuration.

when I go back I saw their 2nd review and the performance improved so much after they set the correct configuration.

I immediately purchase it and use RM45 discount code on it to make it RM715 nett. thumbup.gif
