how about like

TPLINK AX20 + 2 units deco E4  for 3 stories house ?
is it workable using mesh or onemesh ?

the reason is i need router that has at least 2~4 lan ports.
*
That is possible if you wire the E4 (the 2nd unit as a slave on wireless) to the AX20.. I would like to say set up in AP mode; however during my test with deco m9 plus (connect via ethernet to my main router), it also works in 'fake' router mode (not ppoe but dynamic ip) rclxub.gif managed to get the connection up and running without changing to AP mode.
Since the E4 only has fast ethernet ports, doing it this way (wire the E4 to the AX20) will limit your speed to 100Mbps slightly +- when connected to the E4 wifi

Dear all sifu,

my house is around 3.5k sqft double story house.
currently is eyeing on deco m5, is it better to use deco m5 or use tp-link onemesh solution with EC230-G1 and pair with 2 or 3 unit re305.

which is more better or suitable for my house??
*
Since you have the budget for deco m5, might as well go for it since it's superior to onemesh. I guess you're gonna use 2 units?
Can go for deco m3w if you want to add a 3rd node

Hello.

Need a suggestion.

Planning to share wifi with my brother next door.

Termination box for internet is in the store room (M1 and M2). Planning to drill hole to connect the 2 boxes.

Houses is about 2500sqft super link.

Planning to get 300mbps Maxis Fibre for House 1.

[attachmentid=10600729]

Noob Question..

1) if No 1 is the main house, no2 should have 1 modem and 1 router in M2?

2) If M2 has its own modem, should i just get another router at B2 or C2 lan port to amplify the whole house from M2?

If so, can recommend a good router/ modem? budget rm500.

thanks
*
1. Nope, only 1 modem (a.k.a BTU, ONU). Second house will only need a router.

2. You can easily share the internet to your brother's house next door by using a mesh wifi setup.. with a budget of RM500 I'd recommend getting the Deco M4 (3 units below RM500 from some lazada sellers). Since you are willing to drill a hole to the next house, it's even better as the ethernet backhaul will be used.
Main Deco M4 in room M1 or A1... personally I would put it in A1 just outside the store room or further if possible (by using a long ethernet cable connecting from the modem in A1) since the wifi signal will be better for most of the house compared to putting it in the store room.
The 2nd Deco will be in A2.
3rd Deco, C1.

or if you're feeling adventurous (since not many people use this brand), TOTOLINK T10 (3 units RM399)

Do you plan to use Maxis VOIP btw?

You mean for AX20 One Mesh will work with a wired LAN connection between two AX20s, but not wirelessly. Is that correct?

Also has the One Mesh firmware for AX20 been released? I know for AX20 it is listed as "Planned" to have One Mesh.
*
tp link OneMesh is rather crappy compared to asus aimesh mainly because it can only work with their wifi range extenders and powerline devices and not router to router
yeah if you connect router to router via LAN it is technically not 'OneMesh' since that can be done with other routers as well no matter the brand

The OneMesh firmware for AX20 v1 has been released. For v1.2 however, it is not available yet... and tp link staff says there is no ETA for it

Does the lan ports on my router still work after connecting to a switch? Deciding whether to get 5 or 8 ports switch.
*
I am using Deco M5 with TL-SG108E v5.0
After configuring it to be used with unifi white stb, there are 4 free working ports.

Guide here (this is a different model but it's easy to figure it out)
https://ahot.home.blog/2019/03/04/tm-unifi-...any-router-1-2/

My only issue is, if I turn off or put my STB in standby mode long enough, upon turning it on again the unifi playtv won't work.. black screen but EPG viewable (multicast fail). I managed to get it to work again by merely power cycling the STB, but somehow that only worked once! Could not repeat it again despite numerous tries. The working solution for me is to reboot the ONU.

Oh I thought can simply plug and use like white btu -> router -> switch? This means my router needs to be next to the btu.

If set up like you, then my router can be anywhere and not wasted.

My first mesh also needs to be next to my btu because if not, my 2nd mesh cannot get full speed.
*
Sorry I quoted you wrongly, wanted to reply to the guy talking about using Deco M9 and a vlan capable switch.

For what you intent to do is straightforward, just plug in the switch to the router as you said.

In the midst of upgrading the wifi at my family's property..
I am thinking of doing a cheapskate lazy QOS.

7 TP Link Decos being used with ethernet backhaul along with a dumb gigabit switch.
The gateway is either M9 Plus or X20.
The other 6 Decos being the E4.
The account is 800 Mbps.
The so called 'QOS' is at the fast ethernet ports of the E4. laugh.gif
Expected number of devices using the network, about 50 to 80.
So if someone decides to torrent non stop or such, the rest of the users (except for those connected to the same E4) won't be affected much, I reckon? Feasible?

I'd like to share my experience.

Bought a single unit Deco XE75 during the 8.8 sale.
Was using 1 M5 and 1 E4 at my 1200 sq ft 3 bedroom apartment (ground floor), started with 800Mbps before downgrading to 300Mbps.

Around a month back a company moved in next to my unit. Noticed a new wifi ssid. Starting from there my ezviz camera at the door would lose connection every now and then. Another issue that I had (even before the neighbour moved in) was the balcony camera signal fluctuating especially at night, when it's weak it takes much longer to preview the clips recorded.

With this single XE75, I no longer need to use the M5 and E4 as the signal is strong enough to cover the whole unit even at the furthest room where the E4 was placed, and the camera issues related to wifi are now gone. In the Deco app, these devices are now shown as having 'Strong' signal.

Thanks for sharing. Are you on Time or Unifi?

Currently the unit below and above me is still unoccupied. I foresee more issues when they move in with their own wifi network
*
On Maxis, previously Unifi. 1 downside of the Deco system is you can't select a specific wifi channel. With my previous setup, even when using the 'network optimization' feature and seeing the wifi channel being changed, the connection problem with the cameras weren't fixed.

QUOTE(hjack @ Aug 12 2023, 12:25 PM)
Overkill? Since XE75 is tri-band but you dont use it.
*
Yeah definitely overkill.. it's not even a mesh system anymore, just a single router.

I'm surprised to see there's a new firmware dated 2023-09-18 for the old Archer C2300 (V2)! Manually checked for update via Tether app and got the notification. (The router is being used at a rented property)

changelog:
Enhanced homecare stability;
Optimized system stability.
