I wanted to study computer science, but I've heard that computer science is underappreciated in Malaysia. Is the pay really that bad? High stress? After hearing these things I'm starting to have second thoughts.
As a computer science graduate myself, I would say yes to every of your question. Is computer science underappreciated in Malaysia? short answer, yes.
Most employer would view IT jobs as a easy/plug in turn on turn off jobs. Well, unless you working in IT firm.
Pay is bad? depend.
this one rhyme with your first question, if you work in a small medium firm, or places that doesnt specialize in IT, you would encounter hard time gaining a raise. And even you does, gaining a raise is a matter of skills. What I saying here, your cgpa, dean list or whatsoever is not a vital things anymore when you landed a job. It`s your certificate that matter. Always go and try to achieve as many skills. Take exam, take licenses, grab the MNC certificate.
high stress?
I would assure you there isn`t any work field that doesnt stressful. if you hate math, its a bad news.
If you really want to take a step into this field, choose a course that have specialization. Don`t ever took any courses that is general. I learnt Diploma in IT with specialization in Information Security, and Deg in Computer Science with specialization in Database Management. Just like medicine, you need to choose you path. And do make connection, goes to a good firm for industrial attachment.
and always refer stack overflow.
