I really hope that our telco will support the esim function but looking at our telco's coverage, I think the best telco to give support is only Maxis. I doubt even like DiGi or Celcom able to provide full LTE coverage. U Mobile, dont need to even talk about it.

But recently, I asked Maxis DiGi and U Mobile about the availability of Watch 4 LTE version here and they could only answer me that they do not have any info/instructions yet on Apple Watch. However, only U did not respond.

I was the same as @kmrdeva , never bother about Apple Watch but since 4 came out, it got me excited but no LTE support here, pretty sucks.

Should be together with iPhone Xs and Xs Max, widely speculated on October 26.

AW4 just received Sirim approval.

Think our telcos don't support it yet..

Dont think so. I think there's just not enough demand for it yet. :/ So far, only Maxis boasting it's eSIM feature only. cry.gif

..and only for a Huawei Watch at that smile.gif

Well, maybe now that the new iPhones have eSIM, it’s likely they may adopt it on a wider scale in the near future, just as how the iPhone 5 started the nano SIM trend
*
Let's just hope. But I guess with the new iPhone Xs/Max, I think they will use the eSIM feature to test out Malaysian market first. If many are using eSIM, maybe telcos at then have more reasons to ask Apple to bring it in for Watch 5.

Just my 2 cents, I'm guessing that 14 October, Apple MY will annouce Xs & Watch availability and pre-order dates which are 19 (pre-order) & 26 (availability).

I don't know why Malaysia gets this so late, other countries already got it.

Based on data I found online, iOS devices sales in MY is still lacking. The majority flagship phones that are sold out there are Android based. Then the more towards middle income will just buy a 1-2k phone at max and keep it going on for 2-3 years. iOS on the other hand, do not have the numbers. Only high incomes or those really save hard only afford to buy Apple products which is quite rare for Malaysia. So, just based on these, Apple Malaysia have enough strong reasons to not bring LTE variant in as it will just not worth it aka can't make much money.

But i see many iPhone out there....even iPhone sepuluh.

Overall data. Maybe in the city or some housing area got more ppl use ifon. But the majority is not. We could be living in our own Apple bubble where we always see the people around us using Apple products but outside of our Apple bubble, there are more Android users than iOS users. So if u wan them to bring in more products and earlier, we got to convince almost majority of the people to buy Apple products and purchase Android's lesser so that Apple MY could then have a good reason to reason with Cupertino to show Malaysia in the list of being in the 1st wave of product launch during keynotes. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

but with our economy and the pricing of Apple devices, tough luck. bye.gif bye.gif

hahaha....you could be right. I think I only pay attention when I see people using iPhone or wearing an Apple Watch. Never really paying attention to the Samsung, Huaiwei, Vivo or Samung Gear....maybe should come out from my bubble... biggrin.gif

Mobile OS Stats

You can check with the above link. Do play around with the link like changing Malaysia to Singapore or US or Thailand to see other countries' data. Also, the year. Make your own conclusion there.

QUOTE(Susuwatari @ Oct 12 2018, 11:26 AM)
Heard rumor that Celcom is working with Proton to utilize eSim in the upcoming x70, so if it’s true, the ball is at their side to also make it available for Apple Watch.
*
But the problem is SIRIM's DB only have the GPS version of Watch 4 (for now). Cellular version is not found. So do not put high hopes or even any hopes even when Celcom or Maxis supports eSIM.

1) Apple MY need to check if the local market has a good amount of demand for the Watch.
2) Apple MY need to check if any Telco have eSIM tech and ready to roll out.
3) Apple MY need to "apply" to Cupertino to bring it in.
4) Cupertino says ok. Then SIRIM -> sales etc etc.

So far we are ok with step 2. We are currently stuck @ step 1. cry.gif

1) HomePod is already in in SIRIM DB since March 2018 but yet to release for sales here.
2) A1978 is our country's Watch model number. Those having Cellular is A1975, A1976, A2007 & A2008.
3) We are getting dual physical sim variant ohmy.gif . SIRIM's DB state "2 SIM, 2 IMEI". (I could be wrong here)

We buy from anywhere also no difference. Cos we do not need to care about the Cellular bands inside UNLESS out of surprise Apple decides to sell Cellular model in MY, then only we need to care. Otherwise, anyone will work.

Quite misleading for Lazada x Apple MY to put Cellular variant Watch as their promo banner. Unless they do have the intention to bring them in.

Means maxis esim cannot use with apple watch cellular version?

No. Maxis never said they support. Apple MY did not even register cellular models in Malaysia. I think next year or so since now they are putting eSIM in iPhones. Let's just hope more ppl jump onto the eSIM bandwagon.

FYI they have esim for Huawei watch. And I can easily get celullar version from Singapore. That's why I'm asking. If the esim works I can just request them to issue me an esim for Huawei and use it for Apple Watch. U know esim is just a number right?
*
and Maxis never say they support Apple Watch. I do know they support Huawei watch but as far as I know, someone posted before here that he went over to Maxis and asked them personally and the attendant replied that they are not supporting eSIM for Apple Watch.

QUOTE(chiahau @ Oct 31 2018, 06:24 PM)
You both know right, Maxis eSim currently only supports Huawei Watch 2 or whatever but there are successful cases where people manage to use the eSim with their iPhone XS Max. Which already proved Maxis wrong in the 1st place.

So, unless one of you have an Apple Watch Series 4 Cellular and willing to get the eSim to try it out, don't assume it will not work until proven otherwise.

Last time also Maxis said no 4G for iPhone 5 but when announcement time, suddenly iPhone 5 has 4G connectivity.
*
What do you mean? Maxis supports eSIM for iPhone Xs but not for Watch. Please read carefully. I did not mention about Xs.
Today is the launch of 12.1, carriers that said that they will provide eSIM to the iPhones will get their eSIM.

If anyone has an AW4 cellular, they can try it out but i doubt 99% it would not work because Maxis will block the usage IF they add a blocker.
