anyone with a Apple watch with ECG function managed to activate the feature on Health App outside of those countries? I'm getting error of "ECG not available in your region" despite updating to Watch OS 5.2, Watch was bought from France

i think you cannot use the ECG function even tough you bought the unit from the country that supports ECG. it is because of the apps will trigger your current location to make sure you are in supported region... if you're outside the region, then the ECG function won't work...

Just checked with Apple support.
ECG only available in certain region and it follows the location.
Apple Support told me that we can use it in allowable region only.
Which means that in Hong Kong, we can set it up and use it normally but not in Malaysia and elsewhere that Health app not supported.

My case-- I've a AW4 bought in Hong Kong having Malaysian AppleID, facing the same issue.

That’s a set back, would be ridiculous for the need to go to France again just to activate it 😢 perhaps in the future they might update it. Do you know if you can activate it at countries that have ECG feature but not the at the country of purchase?

I think the ECG activation is based on the:
1. Point of sale
2. Location
I tried to spoof the location (eg HK), then reinstalled watch OS. Didn’t work 🤣😆
I hope the next OS release would include the ECG for Malaysia.

There not using GPS location for the activation. Instead using location from the sim/cellular network. Which I find too extreme

So US watches which was able the previously use ECG in malaysia will not be able to use now?
*
I think it would work. The issue is with the activation of ECG feature on the Health App of iPhone, I doubt it constantly checks location and disables the function when you’re not in a country that has ECG

The ECG is still working on my OS5.2 watch.

where did you activate it? I'm having trouble with activation as it says that my location is not at a country that supports ECG

*

If I buy in Malaysia. Then I go SG. Can it still in active when I back to Malaysia?
*
Malaysia’s Apple Watch doesn’t even have ECG to begin with. So won’t even have an option to activate

do i need to use local sim card?

let say i go to singapore and want to activate it, do i need to buy singapore sim card?
*
Seems like it, when I was having difficulties activating it last time, google result shows that it’s somewhat tagged to the simcard carrier for ways to confirm location.
I tried faking location but it didn’t work

So is that means with my Malaysia Apple ID on my iPhone, I need to be in Singapore and get local SIM card. Then I will be able to activate after getting Apple Watch Singapore set? Or I just use someone Singapore Apple ID too?
*
don't think Apple ID affects, i used malaysian Apple ID
