currently using the 8plus, tempted to upgrade to XR, but at the same time the X is discounted...the new gesture based ui is quite tempting

XR - so far based on the online vids and XS reviews (that share specs with the XR)
- Much improved camera (main camera)
- A12 being more power efficient + better battery
- 128 GB is the sweet spot - current 64GB on my 8+ is pushing it
- still cheaper than the X
- bigger albeit not as good screen

X
- more premium feeling with stainless steel
- Apple's calibration of the OLED is fantastic
- pocket friendly size
- dual camera for zoom/better protrait

Or i should just stick with my 8plus since ios12 made it soooo smooth

You are in the same position as me awhile back.

Just that I planned to upgrade to an Xs instead of the Xr like you. But after spending a day with the Xs and the X I couldn't feel the difference at all in real life usage. iOS 12 has made the X lightning quick and buttery smooth. You can tell that the Xs is faster though when put side by side, the difference is more apparent when running heavy apps, but average everyday social media apps like FB, whatsapp etc next to NO DIFFERENCE in load speeds. Face ID unlocks prolly a split second faster? lol So I decided to pull the trigger on a brand new X instead then will dump the money I save on an Apple Watch Series 4 when it launches in Malaysia later. brows.gif

The Xr will most likely be as fast as the Xs so you sort of get the idea of how fast it will be compared to the X.

I have used the X for around two weeks now and:-
- Ditch your 8+ lol This is the future and the way to go. I felt like I just upgraded from an ancient dinosaur phone.
- Once you go OLED you never go back. This IMO is the biggest dealbreaker on the Xr. The screen on the Xr will be similar with the 8+. You will soon realize how washed out the LED screens are. no matter how good, after going OLED. I still have an iPhone 7 for work purposes and the screen, well lets just say I don't remember it looking this bad before. But its given by the company so I do not have any choice but to use it. tongue.gif
- I don't miss touch ID one bit or the home button. I feel Face ID is better and the gestures to navigate around apps, easier.
- The only thing I miss from the 8+...the excellent battery life, in which you will also get from the Xr....this is the only drawback from the X.

Will the A12 be a huge difference with A11? Can the A12 be used longer than A11? Just one year difference, but will the A11 be obsolete few years before A12?

Iphone X 256gb is going for almost the same price as Iphone XR 128GB.

I spent so many hours to choose either XR,X and XS. I am so indecisive. Maybe cause it's my first time buying an expensive phone haha.

I bought an Xs, used it for a day and sold it. No difference to the X for day to day usage. Even when compared side by side everyday social apps like whatsapp, facebook, twitter etc all load the same time. The difference in speed will only be more apparent for more intensive apps like games. If you're a heavy mobile gamer then the Xs would be better as it is there you will start feeling the difference in terms of load speeds.

I'd avoid the Xr like a plague due to the LCD screen and not OLED. If you're very anal about screen quality then get the X or Xs. In terms of speeds see above compared to the X since the Xr has literally the same innards as the Xs. Oh and the Xr has phenomenal battery life. Way better than both the X and Xs. If this is high on your priority list then go for the Xr.

Yeah I am not that crazy about specs. I just want it to last long cause I don't like changing phones. My previous android phone lasted for 4 years and I hope apple product can last longer than that.
Yeah I have to try and watch comparison videos before making my decision. But I worry that if I do not preorder, apple resellers will sell the phone a month later and I cant get the product red which I really want!
I see. I am all good with the Xr specs but the OLED is really tempting, considering the phone is expensive it should have an OLED display. And im not really sure about the lack of 2nd camera and the aluminium build, not sure if it would really affect the zooming and the phone is not really durable compared to stainless steel phones
*
Yes gotta admit that the Product Red Xr is a thing of beauty.

Yup I would rather have the Xr come with A11 and OLED rather than the A12 and LCD lol but that is just me. But again there are people that could hardly tell the difference between the OLED and LCD. Apple still uses one of the best LCDs for a phone mind you.

Durability won't really be a concern since your phone will be in a case most of the time anyway. It's just the band. If you're using naked the thing to note is stainless steel may be the tougher metal but it is more prone to scratching than aluminium.

Wouldn't worry much about the camera quality as well, although its a single lens it still uses the same one found on the Xs and Xs max.

But the big plus IMO is the battery life. The iPhone 8+ already has amazing battery life, but the Xr is said to last 1 and a half hours longer than even the 8+, and yes that's way better than even the Xs Max.

iphone XR is a smart move for apple. it cut the parts that is least significant/noticeable for most people such as LCD vs OLED while keeping all the flagship features intact.

there are already OLED options, iphone Xs and Xs Max. There is no point to have a third one. Apple is keeping the lines for their different range of products to target users.

The most expensive part of iPhone is the OLED display and certainly not A11 vs A12. By keeping OLED and use A11 is not a wise move as it is not going to cut cost down like what XR vs Xs and xs Max.  This move is also proven to be failure when they have iphone 5s vs 5c.

Yeah that's why like I mentioned, it was just me LOL

This is pretty obvious else they will struggle to sell the Xs if the Xr came with an OLED as well. Also one of the main reasons the X was discontinued instead of dropping it down a rung like previous years year old flagships.

An OLED Xr and huge price slashed X will cannibalize the Xs sales to the core.

Guess I’m not the only one.

Said it many times the LCD is the biggest dealbreaker for me.

Wouldn’t go back to an LCD screen even if I was tied up and beaten with a stick. Difference is night and day to me especially when you’re used to tweaking the display. On default, out of the box prolly yes the difference ain’t that noticeable.

This however highly depends on the individual on whether they can tell a difference.

Those going for an Xr I would advise to compare side by side first. If indeed you feel the screen is not up to par to an OLED and budget is an issue get an X, a 256gb sim free set is even cheaper than a 256gb Xr.

iPhone X brand new is cheaper than XR? The only one I can find is lazada 4.3k 64gb which is as expensive as 256gb XR
*
Look around other places like 11street, Shopee etc. I bought a Sim free set brand new 256gb for only rm3749 on 11street last month for my gf. I’m not sure if the listing is still there but I’m sure it will pop up again soon with 11.11 sales etc coming.

I would not suggest others to go for X instead of XR because those who choose XR over XS most likely have budget constraint and they would like their phone to last as long as it could. Correct me if I'm wrong but on average you can no longer upgrade your ios after 5 years. If you buy X now you will lose out 1 year on the phone lifespan. Also people like me who only change their phone every 4-5 years generally don't care about whether it's LCD or OLED screen.
*
And what would you lose out exactly? Speed? I bought and used an XS for one day and sold it off because I felt no different to the X for everyday use. The Xr will be similar speed wise. iPhone 5s is a 6 year old phone and it’ still supported by ios12.

But like I said bro different folks different strokes. If the screen is not an issue by all means get the fastest phone available for your budget which is the Xr. I am assuming here your budget is as much as an Xr costs.

To me and for those who cares about the the screen quality and can notice a difference with a budget constraint should get the X.

In a year or two when the technology comes cheap enough that even mid range androids come with OLED the Xr will look even more aged beside them compared to the X. This is if you can notice the difference.
