After I patched it, it just wont start anymore
Can you patch it ?

Installing sucessful, but after apply the a-patch, wlm 8.5 wont start any more

hint: dun modify too much, espcially dun select "polygamy", "shorten status info in info bar" and "remove billing info menu"
hint2: i didnt install other 2 services, so try reinstall it without the other 2 services and see if its work.

Dude, it's just a beta version. Sure some will experience problem. Just dun do patch up stuff first..

yeah. i also got this thingy also. don know what happen but what to do leh. it is beta woh..

Now patched wlm 8.5 works for me already, and messenger plus live for wlm 8.5 is released

wlm 8.5 new function! able to hide all the text or graphics or whatever so ur boss or ur parents including urself cant see wat r u doin

1024kbps, mind to elaborate. Do u mean a-patch for wlm 8.5 or there's a patched version of wlm 8.5? wer to download? I still can't install it even I thought I followed the instructions replied by WLM support team from Microsoft!!! Sigh

The patched wlm means its pacthed by a-patch

hmm, its weird, im in windows xp sp2 home edition, wlm 8.5 installation is sucessful, tough i didnt install the "live assistant" and other service(forget the name already ), so try not to the install the other 2 service when reinstall wlm 8.5 see if its got help or not

same. I didn;t install other services. Guess I have to stick with 8.1 for now. Sigh...

aiya, wlm 8.5 UI look more tidier and look more vista-ish than 8.1 only tough it still abit buggy, see my previous post

its still a beta software and for testing only, better stick with 8.1

Somehow YM for Windows Vista looks even more Vista-ish, because of the fully transparent window, anyone agrees with me?

Instead of a-patch, perhaps you guys could try out mess patch as well, it works fine for me.

yea though YM is more vista-ish.. but still i prefer MSN than YM..
hopefully de MSN interface can upgrade also..

My problem is weird. I can install the simplified chinese edition of wlm 8.5 but us edition cannot. It keeps saying something with invalid character in the directory path in the event viewer after the installation failed. Am running the chinese edition now but take time 2 get used 2 it. Anybody has any idea how to get the us english edition running? Am using xp sp2 english edition adn am able to install Mail n Writer without problem. Weird.

Just wonder do I need to uninstall my WLM b4 installing this version?


I tried the methods in the URL asellus posted.........somehow the installation stop half way with an error.

allenultra, try with http://g.live.com/1rebeta/WLMsgr85_zh-cn. This is the Chinese version. I believe you may be having the same problem as mine if you can install this version.

i noticed that the CPU utilization is higher compared to 8.1 and only when the window is not minimized.

OK. Finally I got the 8.5 US version installed and running but not sure is this the right way.

1. Uninstall WLM (either 8.1 or 8.5 other version).
2. Clear these 2 folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
a. WindowsLiveInstaller
b. WLInstaller
3. Delete the installer & Messenger folder in the Program Files\Windows Live folder.
4. Run Regedit, delete this key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger.
5. Restart Computer
6. Try install WLM8.5 US again.

Note: This is my personal experiment. Please use at your own risk. Good Luck

i have no problem at all installing WML beta 8.5 on my xp2... so far no problem occur yet.
