Hi, I am located in Tawau Sabah and my 100 Mbps unifi connection was just turbo-ed to 800 mbps according to the unifi status page after receiving the notification sms from TM.
I have followed the instructions in the SMS and turned the modem & router off and back on but my speedtest only shows me getting around 150++ mbps download and 100 mbps upload
on average. Highest download speeds were just over 200 mbps and upload less than 200 mbps depending on the server that I choose. I am testing on a desktop pc connected via ethernet
using a cat 5e cable direct to the router and no clients on the wifi network.

I have brought this up using live chat but the support staff said the turbo program is still in testing phase and that this is normal. Not being satisfied I called the 100 tech support number
and after resetting the connection twice without any change, they opened a report for me.

Anyone in Sabah having this issue. I see screenshots on lowyat of people getting 400-500 mbps after being turbo-ed but they are in peninsular malaysia so I am wondering if this issue is due to
my location.

Thanks.

Try with a Cat6 cable. I seen people in Sabah on the TM thread getting the full speed, so it should only be you.

Using cat6 connected from PC to TM supplied Unifi TP-Link Router (Black with 3 antennas).

Just had a visit from TM technician and he tested with his own router and laptop with same results.
He called back to home base and they have verified that the port is set to 800 Mbps.
He also tested the fiber signal strength and it was -15.47 dbm which is in the nominal range.

He said someone else will come back on Monday to solve the issue.

Ah... I think it is the original patch cable that came with the unit on installation day. So you think that might be the solution? Swap a cat 6 patch between the o.n.u and the router?

The TM technician that came just now brought his own laptop, router and patch cables though I am not sure if they were cat6. I would assume that he would be using cat6 to test. He also could only get 200 Mbps on his own setup.

Damn have to wait till monday cos all the stores are closed. What a bummer.

Doesn't matter if you get Cat6 to connect to Router to PC if the source is already limited.
Make sure all cables are cat6.

He won't bring Cat 6, only Cat5e, which should be okay thereotically, but lots of shit Cat5e cables out there.

Managed to buy some cat 6 patch cables before the store closed.

Connected Cat6 patch cable between O.N.U. and Router
and Connected Cat6 patch cable between PC. and Router.

You using "TM supplied Unifi TP-Link Router (Black with 3 antennas)" or the Mikrotik in your photo as your router? Knowing the model also helps.

But anyway if the TM technician tested with his own router, also problem then the problem shouldn't be your equipment.

Check your mikrotik router cpu load and configuration. From the look of it, seems to be a rb750gr3 or rb750gr2. Both will require FastTrack enabled and pppoe encryption disabled. If you are using rb750gr2, I suggest upgrade it to something better as it cannot handle 800+200mbit total throughput.

Test back to basic. Modem & TP-Link AC1200 wireless router, LAN wired to PC/Laptop.

There are limitation on mikrotik transfer rate at 250Mbps +/- on the lower end models. Too many settings to fiddle with.

Thanks for your very helpful suggestions jio notworthy.gif rclxms.gif thumbup.gif , I had the fasttrack rule on my mikrotik firewall disabled so that I could use Queuing to manage bandwidth on my network, re-enabling it solved the slow internet speed problem.

Although I had initially tested the connection with the default Tp-Link router, I use a mikrotik RB750Gr3 router to run a vpn connection from this location to my house.

I have since returned the default tp-link router to my friend from whom I borrowed it from to test so I am unable to confirm if the unit was hampered by the cat5e cable between it and the B.T.U. during my initial testing

But I am surprised that the TM technician was unable to obtain the expected speeds when he tested on his equipment.

I am currently only able to get around 600 mbps consistently though I once managed to get 700+ mbps

user posted image

I am wondering if I should upgrade my router because I suspect that it is still limiting my speed.

any suggestions?

I would prefer using a mikrotik because I would be able to migrate my current settings to retain my current network setup without having to reconfigure from scratch.

Thanks.

Martha_Fokker run the speed test directly from the mikrotik router using winbox. Disable the simple queues before running the test.

public accessable Mikrotik btest server : 207.32.194.24

Check the router cpu utilisation. You may have to workaround this limitation & disable the filter rules that are no longer applicable due to the use of fasttrack to reduce the load.

I usually only recommend RB750Gr3 for 300mbps symmetric (600mbps total throughput) & below. Next up is hap ac2 for 500mbps symmetric & below. But that is still have to depends on your use case (queues + filters + scripts etc). If you don't use any queues or filters (apart from when the connection is made), it is possible to get up to 1600mbps total pppoe nat performance from RB750Gr3 although any additional load on the cpu will reduce that. Your safest bet for a mikrotik replacement is the upcoming RB4011.

I have solved the speed problem since my last post. Looks like it was a cabling issue.
I can get full speed 800+ mbps download provided I plug my PC/Laptop via short cat 6 cable direct to the router lan port.
My main PC was on a 10 Meter cat5e cable run connected to a dlink 8 port gigabit switch and it was getting less than 600 mbps.
Just replacing the 10 meter cat5e cable with a cat 6 cable gave me 600 to 700 mbps when plugged into the switch. A direct connection gave me just a hair over 800 mbps.
Changing to a 5 port tp-link switch gave me between 790mbps to 810 mbps.

So it looks like cable quality and length plus quality of any network equipment in between the client and router
has quite an impact at this range of speed compared with my old 100mbps connection.

Router CPU load never went beyond 20% during testing.

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions. I have decided for the time being to stick with my current hardware.

Congrats, but I think we all figured our that it was cable all along. You should have seen my signature, and get one of the cable brands that I recommend, and get Cat 6. Cat 5e cable is actually fine, but too many badly made Cat 5e cables out there.
