Hi guys, I have been reading this forum for the past few months. and i feel like i know you guys personally already! especially, kentcp and nikki :-)

Thanks to your recommendations here in the forum, I found Dr How. And 6 weeks ago, i finally had the courage to take the first step. I'm so glad I did, and I'm even more grateful to have found this forum.

I had a gap on my 2 front teeth which widen up as I aged, and I have been hiding from my smiles since then. And because, I'm getting married end of next year, I just had to get it fixed!! I'm soo happy to see the progress :-)

thanks nikki :-) i have to do 2 extractions. Did one already, one more to go. the reason why i had to extract was because Dr How said, it's a bad tooth - kinda loose already, and no point keeping it. he said crowning will be very expensive, therefore he advised me extract it.

Dr How promised that he'll give me a beautiful smile for the wedding, but dare not promised that the gap from the tooth extractions will be fully close, but he said - no one can see it other than him, coz only he will look at my mouth that closely. haha

yea, for once after a looong time, i smile with my teeth!! hahah, even with braces on, it gives me the confident.

after i started my braces journey, a lot of my friends told me they needed braces too, but never really go through it. and it is true, not many people has the perfect teeth, they just decided not to fix it. i mean, i wouldn't too if it's not because of the wedding. it really push me forward to taking action. i mean, all the bride i see has got that SMILE of a lifetime.

my colleague was telling me the same too, he likes girls in braces coz they are cute n lovable. :-)

Soon ok? But must not eat anything chewy. For burger, u may start with filet o fish first cos its soft.

I tell u, subway is so susah. Everytime i eat, i eat the vegie, filling and bread separately. So embarrassing.
*
good suggestion - filet o fish is worth the try :-) and yea, subway looks "hard", well, at least u can eat separately....as for me now..everything has to be mashed! coz all i can do now is swallow. sobs.

Karyn: congrats to you too! I have my wedding date set, therefore I have to work around it :-(

yes, Dr How will de-braced me bfr the wedding, and he said that i can choose to braced it back to close the gap. It's entirely up to me because, he said I might be happy with it and decided not to. Also, it depends on my progress, my gap could be closed by then. It's something that he cannot confirm.

I truly understand his predicament because i gave him a deadline of 18months to fix my teeth and close the gap. he did say that he'll do his best, and hope that i dont blame him if somehow the gap did not managed to close by then.

of coz after paying 6.5k for braces, I would want my teeth to be perfect with no-hidden-gap. But to have a beautiful smile to show off during my wedding after all these years of hiding it - what can I ask for more :-)

Having said that, I think i will braced it back after the wedding...hehe...i want it to be perfect after all :-)

Nikki: Have you ever asked Dr How to removed the bite stopper? Coz, my tooth is also sore from hitting the bite stopper, that's why I hate it so much.
and ur cinema experience...i did the same to McD Nuggets. hehe

Kentcp: Thank you, and yes, I cant wait to see myself with a perfect smile :-)

I didnt ask him to remove. I reminded him abt 6months ago that its still there. But he say just leave it that if it doesnt bother me. So i just leave it there lo. I only chew with one side most of the time so i cant still bear with it. smile.gif
But i still have gum prob le until now. As in i show too much gum when i smile. sad.gif
*
You're so patient :-) 2 weeks after I had my bitestop, I asked Dr How to removed it. haha. he said it has to be there for at least 4 weeks :-(

I'm sure Dr How will fix ur gum prob, and I bet it has improved compared to when u first had ur braces. I have lotsa crooked teeth myself :-( and I look in the mirror everyday, hoping for miracles to happen.

The retainer should come with a box wan ma. When u go out, bring the box with u so when u eat, take it out and place it into the box? Actually we're very lucky now cos the retainer now looks like a transparent tray rather than a steel wire across our mouth.

I heard it collect lots of saliva inside la. But at least it's almost invisible lo.

Added on May 5, 2010, 8:55 am
Haha...hopefully is nice jagung la.  Actually Fr. How says my upper jaw is still very protruding. But i told him i cant afford to spend more money already So i'll leave it as it is and i'm happy with it eventho its not perfect.
*
Yea agreed with Karyn, jagung means sebiji-sebiji, sure damn nice :-)

Nikki, do you have to spend extra money to fix it? I thought it is all part of the treatment?
And have you guys notice the changes on your facial structure?

Actually yes le. Rm6k is only for the set of braces and services by doctor every month. Additional treatment like gum, jaw etc have to pay extra. I already paid RM700 to install 2 screws (to pull up gum). And RM750 to laser off a tiny vein in my mouth (i dunno how to explain the purpose to this la). Apparently, the vein causes my upper lip to curl up. So to laser it off, my upper lip fall nicely back to where it suppose to be lo..
So if fix my upper jaw, will need to pay extra... cry.gif
*
I did the laser one also, yea, cost an additional 700bucks :-( As for me, i think it's to nicely close the gap between my 2 front teeth. Wow, didnt know jaw prob will cost so much also. *hugs*

Haha Karyn,
U meant this type?
[attachmentid=1561812]
Thsi type is older version wan. Latest is this type.
[attachmentid=1561810]

My cousins are using this type... cant really see unless u look closely la.
*
wow, the latest version of the retainer looks really good!! almost transparent. i hope i'm getting this too. been reading a lot of feedback abt retainers, and they aren't popular. a lot of people prefer wearing braces than retainer.

Yes, i can see that the gap not as big anymore. Good choice to go for treatment, girl. Keep it up.
Haha, i look so much more horrible b4 treatment. biggrin.gif

Oh change of face structure, i forgot to answer that question. It has to be YES for me. Seriously, i'm soooo happy cos my face become smaller and sharper. Side profile also improve alot.

Last time my side profile not nice like monkey. Not more like human edy. smile.gif kakaka...

I tell you many ppl (newly met) cant believe it when they see my old pics. As for old friends, they say i look slimmer. They even say my face is very small now. Well cos i used to have bread face.

Now, i have more confident cos i hav straighter teeth and better face structure...

Btw, i extracted 4 teeth + 2 Upper wisdom tooth. But face structure were already improved even b4 extracting wisdom tooth.
*
Cant wait for the gap to be fully close. that is the first thing i check in the morning, hahah, braces has made me become overly obsessed with my own teeth. I've seen ur bfr pix, aint that bad la, as long as you're gorgeous now :-)

Good for you babe!! I never like my side profile as well, but i noticed the changes now, but not sure if it was because I lost weight, haha.

One question, must we extract our wisdom tooth? Dr. How never mentioned it to me, i wonder if I need to.

I believe every1 of us here is obsessed with our own teeth biggrin.gif

I decided to extract my wisdom tooth bcoz Dr. How said that it will make my face slimmer and he said, "It's a nuisance to me. I look at it, I just don't like it". Haha...

*
hahah. Dr How surely does knw what he wants :-)

Not need to extract if it doesnt bothers you. If say, ur wisdom tooth got infection, cavity, or grow in wrong direction. The u will need to remove it. My case cos it grew too long and they hit my bottom jaw. When i chew or jaw movement, i will accidentally bite on my lower gum.

And about the price for removal, depends whether it can be remove without surgery. Without surgery is wayyyy cheaper. With surgery will b4 RM500 minimum. Why surgery involve? Cos your tooth didnt grow correctly, maybe half of it still covered in your gum...  smile.gif
*
I see, well, mine looks fine for now...but since extraction can give a slimmer face....i dont mind getting it extracted haha. *i'm sucha psycho*

Dont worry, this is bcos the root of ur teeth are attached to your gum ma. We hav more sensitive tissues at our gum more...thats why...

Just dont eat hard or chewy food for the time being. Be gentle at them. Very soon u will be able to see improvment then u will like the pain u get. tongue.gif

thanks for making me feel better :-) i guess, you are right - no pain no gain eh :-)

it's good that he's such a perfectionist, at least you know you're getting the best treatment and the best results.

as for me, by hook or by crook he has to de-braced me by Oct 2011. Hopefully all the gaps from extractions will be closed by then. *keeping my fingers crossed*

and its for funny that Dr How keep emphasizing that I should understand and will not blame him if it wasnt the best results ever. Of coz I understand, he is doing his best :-)
